Jarrod opened the door.

He fully expected to see the tragic figure of a woman broken by love.

Instead, it was his executive assistant, Arthur Bishop.

Jarrod frowned slightly. "What are you doing here?"

Arthur promptly handed over a phone. "Boss, you left your phone in the car."

After accompanying Jarrod to a business dinner, Arthur knew his boss was meeting Professor Thorne and had dropped him off at the hotel.

It wasn't until Arthur was about to leave that he noticed the phone sitting on the backseat.

Jarrod took the device. Seeing that Arthur made no move to leave, he asked coolly, "Something else?"

Arthur hesitated for a second before saying, "Boss, when I was coming up just now, I saw your wife in the lobby."

Jarrod's fingers paused slightly, though his expression remained unreadable.

That night, she had shoved him toward Chloe and hadn't called or texted him since.

Even when her entire team got their bonuses, she hadn't bothered to say thank you.

Jarrod had no energy to guess what was going on in her head.

Seeing Arthur still waiting for a response, he asked flatly, "Why is she here?"

"She wasn't alone," Arthur replied. "Her father, Mr. Quinn, and her sister were there too. It looked like they were arguing about something. Mr. Quinn seemed pretty furious, and your wife didn't look too good either."

Jarrod's brow furrowed imperceptibly, but he didn't say a word.

Standing in the doorway, Arthur watched his boss's completely unfazed reaction, unsure of how to proceed.

Bracing himself, he added, "Boss, I think she had been crying. Her eyes looked a bit swollen. Do you want to go down and check?"

Jarrod gave him an icy side-eye. "Whether she cries or not has nothing to do with me."

Arthur, "..."

He felt like he had just walked right into a trap.
