Soon, the waiters rolled in the serving carts, and an array of exquisite dishes was laid out on the table.
The ambitious employees wasted no time marching over to toast Jarrod, while others raised their glasses to butter up the executives.
Stella didn't drink, nor did she initiate any toasts. She occasionally grabbed a bite of whatever was within reach, doing everything she could to remain invisible.
A plate of garlic butter jumbo shrimp looked incredibly appetizing—the shrimp perfectly cooked and glistening without being drowned in heavy sauce.
Stella reached out with her fork, but right as she did, the Lazy Susan spun away. She grabbed empty air.
The table was massive. By the time that dish made a full rotation back to her, it would likely be empty.
Just as she retracted her fork in disappointment, the glass turntable suddenly stopped and rotated back an inch.
The plate of shrimp stopped perfectly in front of her.
Stella instinctively glanced up. Jarrod had reached out his long arm, halting the edge of the glass turntable.
He wasn't looking at her, and there were at least ten people sitting between them. Was it a coincidence?
"Wow, my favorite honey-glazed cashews! Thank you, Jar—Mr. Fuller!"
Right then, Chloe gasped in delight at the dish that had stopped directly in front of her.
So that was it. He stopped it so Chloe could have her favorite food.
Stella averted her gaze and scooped a few shrimp onto her plate.
A moment later, Stella's team decided it was their turn to approach the head table for a toast.
Left with no choice, Stella grabbed her glass of juice and followed.
One of her more extroverted coworkers handled the talking, leaving Stella hovering in the back, simply raising her glass when necessary to play along.
After toasting Jarrod and the executives, it was Chloe's turn.
