Hearing that, the anger simmering in Stella's chest completely boiled over.
Her grip tightened on the edge of the report. "So just because she has a billionaire backing her, it doesn't matter how many all-nighters we pull or how much actual work we do—she gets all the credit?"
Mr. Whitaker waved her off, sighing. "The notice is already out. My hands are tied. Get back to work."
Stella knew begging Mr. Whitaker was pointless, and she knew exactly whose tacit approval was behind this!
Thinking about her team eagerly waiting for good news, she refused to just swallow this injustice.
Finding a secluded corner, she dialed Jarrod's number.
"What is it?" Jarrod's voice was frigid and detached.
Stella took a deep breath, forcing her tone to remain level. "Mr. Fuller, my entire team worked overnight to ensure the launch was a success, yet Director Huxley is the only one receiving a bonus. I don't think that's fair."
A faint, dismissive chuckle came through the receiver.
"If I recall correctly, I simply invested in your company. I don't micromanage internal HR policies."
He could say whatever he wanted, but he was the one who parachuted Chloe in. Everyone was terrified of him!
Stella pressed on. "But the company only made this unfair decision because of you."
"And?" Jarrod replied dryly.
Stella choked on her words.
She could practically picture his face—aloof, completely unbothered, acting as if none of this concerned him.
"And... I was hoping you could be generous enough to put a word in with the company so my team can get their bonuses?" she finally asked.
She could stomach a little humiliation, but she couldn't let her coworkers suffer because of her.
"If you're worried about upsetting Director Huxley, I don't even need my share," Stella added quickly.
Jarrod's tone remained deadpan. "Tell me, Ms. Quinn, in what capacity are you begging me for a favor right now?"
