Stella stopped eating entirely.

Her relationship with Jarrod was practically at its expiration date. Having a baby was the furthest thing from reality.

Was Sylvia deliberately trying to humiliate her by pushing this topic?

"We'll see."

Just as Stella was frantically trying to come up with an excuse to deflect the question, Jarrod answered in a calm, flat tone.

He had done the bare minimum to spare her dignity, refraining from publicly stating that a mere contract wife wasn't fit to bear a Fuller heir.

"Young people have their own plans. Let's not pressure them."

Perhaps sensing Jarrod's lack of enthusiasm, George quickly changed the subject with a laugh. "Here, Jarrod, try the fish! Sylvia made it herself!"

The rest of the meal passed in an atmosphere that was neither warm nor entirely awkward.

After dinner, Jarrod announced his departure.

Stella walked out alongside him.

Right before she left, Sylvia forcefully shoved a bag of guava into her hands.

"We know how much you love guava! Sylvia specifically asked someone to bring these back from overseas!" George chimed in to support his wife.

Stella never ate guava. She was highly allergic.

When her mother was still alive, George had known this perfectly well.

He used to meticulously check every fruit platter before she took a bite.

Now, George had entirely erased her existence and her needs from his memory.

All just to uphold another woman's pride, using this 'you better be grateful' tone to force her to take fruit that could send her to the hospital.

Stella didn't utter a word. She simply held the bag at her side.

At the driveway, Jarrod's driver was already waiting.

Seeing them approach, the driver opened the rear door.

Jarrod hadn't returned to The Sterling Residences in days.

Stella sincerely doubted he wanted to share a ride with her.

But considering her primary reason for enduring this dinner, she spoke up right before he got in. "Mr. Fuller, could I ask you a favor?"

Jarrod glanced down at her. "Get in."

Stella had planned to say she needed to head to the event venue for setup and that it was out of his way.
