Stella's pulse raced. Unable to contain her excitement, she quickened her pace toward the front door.
Even before she walked in, she could hear the sound of laughter coming from inside—
One of the voices belonged to a woman, and it sounded incredibly familiar. It was the same woman who had been walking with Logan in the hospital corridor!
With trembling hands, Stella pushed the door open. Her eyes immediately locked onto the figure in the living room—the man she had been dreaming of.
Logan Lennox.
He had an innate, untamed edge to his features. His pale skin made his lips appear striking, and a lazy, roguish smirk played at the corner of his mouth. He was undeniably handsome, radiating a wild and captivating energy.
He looked exactly the same as the man forever engraved in Stella's heart.
Sitting right beside him was a woman dressed in an elegant skirt suit. Her makeup was flawless, and she was leaning in close, speaking intimately to him. Logan tilted his head to listen, his captivating eyes brimming with deep, undivided affection.
In the past, that look had belonged entirely to her...
Stella gripped her purse strap so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
"Stella is home! Why are you standing by the door?"
Sylvia noticed her and called out warmly, playing the role of the perfect, loving mother.
"Logan just brought Miss Vance over to visit your father and me! Why don't you keep them company while I go cut up some of your favorite fruit!"
With that, Sylvia disappeared into the kitchen.
Logan casually lifted his gaze to look at Stella. His eyes were completely devoid of emotion, looking at her as if she were a total stranger.
It was the woman beside him who smiled and greeted her. "Stella, it's been a long time."
The suffocating feeling of being an outsider made the bitter ache in Stella's chest swell until it was almost unbearable. "It hasn't been that long," she replied hoarsely.
It had only been five days.
The woman didn't catch the underlying meaning and simply chuckled. "Well, it's actually been a few years. I don't think we've seen each other since high school graduation."
"Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm Skylar Vance. We went to the same high school and were in the same class."
They were high school classmates?
Stella looked at Skylar's delicate, pretty face, but she couldn't recall a single memory of her.
