Stella glanced over and saw the gift box containing the tie clip she had handed to his driver at the mall two days ago.
It had been two days. Why was he only bringing it up now?
He was probably just swamped with work.
"I was shopping with a friend and thought that tie clip would suit you, so I bought it," Stella explained evenly.
Jarrod slowly turned the box over in his hands before lifting his dark, piercing gaze. "Aside from The Fuller Group's partnership, is there anything else Mrs. Fuller wants?"
"..." Stella sighed. "You're overthinking it. I'm sorry my father bothered you the other day. I had no idea he was going to call you out of the blue."
"But this gift has nothing to do with that. It's just my way of saying thank you for everything you've helped me with recently."
Hearing that, Jarrod opened the box, took out the tie clip, and inspected it. "How long did it take you to pick this out?" he asked casually.
Stella had no idea where he was going with this, but she answered honestly. "About half an hour. I looked at a lot of options, but I thought this subtle, understated design matched your style best."
"Do you not like it?" Stella asked.
Jarrod traced the metal edge with his thumb. He didn't say whether he liked it or not. Instead, he coolly stated, "Keep tomorrow evening clear. You're coming with me to a banquet."
Stella was genuinely taken aback. Jarrod had never once asked her to accompany him to a social event.
Seeing her surprise, Jarrod offered a brief explanation. "It's a birthday dinner for a family elder. It's a private family event, and it's expected that I bring my partner."
They weren't officially divorced yet, so technically, this was still part of her wifely duties.
"Alright. I understand," Stella agreed.
Mrs. Whitby brought out breakfast, putting an end to their conversation.
She had prepared a generous spread for Stella, who took her seat at the table.
