Stella paused for a moment.

She realized what Jarrod meant—he assumed she was anxious about the divorce proceedings.

While she hadn't been thinking about that specifically, it was certainly a pressing issue.

"Did Grandpa make our divorce difficult?" she asked directly.

Jarrod looked at her, his fingers tapping lazily against the steering wheel. "Do you want him to make it difficult?" he asked, his tone unreadable.

If things were difficult, their divorce might hit a roadblock.

If they weren't, they would be finalizing the paperwork in just three weeks.

Jarrod's question caught Stella off guard once again.

From a purely practical standpoint, staying married benefited her, especially since George Quinn had practically promised her the world.

Emotionally, however, she no longer harbored any fantasies about Logan, and she refused to use a marriage certificate to trap a man who didn't love her.

"Our marriage was always just a business arrangement. All good things must come to an end. Since we've decided to end it, we should just let it be," Stella stated calmly.

Jarrod let out a low scoff, offering no further response.

A heavy silence filled the cabin, leaving only the soft hum of the tires against the asphalt.

Feeling utterly exhausted, Stella rested her head against the headrest and stared blankly at the passing city lights.

She had no idea how much time passed before the car finally rolled into the underground garage of The Sterling Residences. Jarrod unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned across the console, and released hers.

The familiar scent of crisp cedar washed over her, and Stella instinctively pressed herself back into the leather seat. Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Jarrod stepped out, opened the passenger door, and easily scooped her into his arms.
