Sebastian barely reacted.
Carter likely realized that the mystery surrounding Helena was a hurdle Sebastian simply couldn't get over.
Finally, Carter relented. "I've sent all the investigation files to your email."
"Alright," Sebastian replied smoothly. "Also, are The DNA Evidence results out yet?"
"They'll be ready within the week," Carter confirmed.
"Tell me the second you have them," Sebastian ordered.
"Understood," Carter replied.
Sebastian hung up the phone.
Right on cue, a faint noise drifted from the master bedroom.
Whether it was the effect of the Fever Reducers or something else, Helena was slowly beginning to stir.
Sebastian swiftly made his way to the master bedroom.
Helena was massaging her throbbing temples.
"You had a fever," Sebastian said flatly.
"You already told me that," she snapped, clearly in a foul mood.
Sebastian gave a low hum, stepped up to her, and reached out to check her temperature.
The heat had broken.
But Helena hadn't broken a sweat.
That wasn't a good sign; sweating was the only true way to break a fever naturally.
"Didn't you take some medication earlier? What exactly did you swallow that didn't bring your temperature down?" Sebastian probed.
Helena didn't miss a beat. "Painkillers. I had a headache."
Sebastian nodded slowly. "The doctor gave you an injection to lower your fever."
Helena had no memory of it and didn't bother to comment.
"What do you want to eat? I'll have someone prepare it," Sebastian offered, looking down at her to change the subject.
Helena suddenly let out a soft laugh, staring at him without answering.
"You want me to cook? Are you purposely trying to make things difficult for me?" Sebastian asked point-blank.
Over the years, she had grown accustomed to the blandness.
Sebastian stared at her, but she clearly had no intention of saying anything else.
After a long pause, he simply grunted in agreement.
He turned and walked out.
Helena leaned lazily against the headboard.
The medication kept her subdued, leaving her surprisingly calm.
Her assistant called to check on her condition.
Helena didn't offer any lengthy explanations, merely instructing her assistant to keep everything running smoothly.
Lance James had been there as well, and upon noticing that neither Helena nor Sebastian had shown up, he had quickly put two and two together.
Lance gave her a call.
"No, I spiked a fever, so I didn't make it," Helena explained softly. "It's broken now, don't worry. You can take the lead on the IGM project. I'll have my assistant meet up with you."
"Alright," Lance agreed.
