Winter frowned. She used to think Chris was the type of man who kept his private and professional lives strictly separated. She thought he wouldn’t mess with something just to get back at someone.

Now, she wasn’t so sure.

“Did he specify what he was unhappy with?” she asked.

After that interview, she had gone to dinner with Zac and was subsequently kidnapped. During her hospitalization, William had forbidden her from touching any work, but she had managed to review the interview footage during the three–day holiday break.

It was almost impossible to find anything wrong with it.

The editor shook his head. “The team at Xander Corporation didn’t coordinate with me directly. They haven’t disclosed any specific points of dissatisfaction from Mr. Xander. They simply stated you need to conduct the interview again.”

Winter’s expression remained unreadable. She gave a curt nod. “Fine. I’ve got it.”

Wendy’s gaze lingered on her. No one else knew the truth, but Wendy did. Chris was Winter’s husband. Even if they were headed for divorce, would he really sink this low just to make her job harder? Blocking her interview like this felt petty, even for him.

Winter opened her laptop and checked the schedule for the next few days.

Her interview was supposed to run during the midday broadcast. The station had carved out a special slot for the Xander Corporation feature. If Chris kept dragging his feet and refusing to approve it, her segment would be empty.

The damage to the station could be huge.

And the Xander Corporation was also their biggest partner. They couldn’t afford to offend them.

Still, Winter truly didn’t want to see Chris again.

Sam called her into his office to discuss the matter.

“I watched the interview,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with it. But they’re the client, and they’ve got money and power. They can always find something to complain about. Just take one for the station.”

He knew that in Winter’s entire career, she had never suffered the indignity of having an interview rejected for a redo. If word got out, she would be the talk of the industry. What he didn’t realize was that Winter wasn’t refusing out of pride.

If there had really been a mistake in the interview, redoing it would have only cost her a little extra time. Getting the job done right was what mattered most.

Seeing that Winter still looked unmoved, Sam tried to lure her in. “Fine. For your year–end review, I will

give you an outstanding.”

“But we need to talk about this. If you’re unhappy with the interview, I can redo it. If you’re unhappy with me, you don’t have to be. Our divorce shouldn’t affect the job. I don’t believe you’re that kind of person.”

“If you truly believe I’m not that kind of person, then why ask the question?” On the other end of the line, Chris lit a cigarette. “Ms. Scott, you seem to be giving yourself too much credit. I have no issue with you.”

“Okay. Then if you’re unhappy with the interview, we’ll schedule a new one. When are you available?”

Instead, Chris said flatly, “I’m tied up for the next few weeks.”

Winter felt her breath catch in her throat. “It’s an interview that can be wrapped up in thirty minutes. It

won’t take much of your time.”

Winter kept her tone formal and controlled. Chris looked down as he tapped ash into the tray. When he spoke again, his voice was even colder.

“My time is exceptionally valuable.”
