Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 63

William was sent back to the film set by Winter, and she returned to her routine, going to work every day

as usual.

Her parting ways with Chris didn’t mean she would cut ties with Mrs. Xander Sr.

No matter how bad things became between her and Chris, Mrs. Xander Sr. remained her grandmother in every way that mattered.

She calculated that the remaining test results should have come out by now and called Zac.

“Other than a few indicators that are slightly high or low, which is normal for someone her age, everything looks fine,” Zac said.

Winter asked again to be sure. “Are you certain no tests were missed?”

Something still didn’t sit right with her. Mrs. Xander Sr.’s symptoms had been very similar to what she had experienced before.

Zac had no idea what she was really worried about. He simply thought she was concerned about Mrs. Xander Sr.’s health. “She’s getting older. Her metabolism is not what it used to be. A few minor issues

are normal.”

Was she overthinking it?

Maybe she was.

Ever since the stillbirth and induced delivery, she hadn’t been the same. Some nights she needed sleeping pills just to rest.

Just before she hung up, Zac hesitated. “Chris is injured.”

Winter’s grip tightened slightly around her phone, but her voice remained flat. “Doesn’t he have Skyla?”

She hung up immediately after saying that.

Three days had passed since that night.

After ending the call, Winter went to the restroom and splashed cold water on her face. She stared at her reflection, expressionless. Then she lifted the corners of her mouth with her fingers, forcing a stiff smile.

She returned to her desk and prepared for the next day’s interview.

The interview was about the measures the Xander Corporation had taken after the recent factory explosion in the suburbs, including compensation for nearby residents and future fire safety plans.

The explosion had drawn widespread public attention. Her department had assigned her to interview. Steve.

Winter wanted nothing to do with it. But for work, she could endure facing him for a few hours.

“What are you having?”

The moment Winter sat down, Skyla asked and waved the server over.

“A latte, please,” Winter said.

Skyla smiled, her tone warm with familiarity. “You’re still the same. You can’t drink black coffee. You always have to add milk. You used to say you couldn’t handle something that bitter.”

“There’s already enough bitterness in life,” Winter said after taking a sip. “Why add more to it?”

“Yes. You’re right. There’s already enough bitterness in life.”

Skyla seemed to agree, her gaze tender and warm, but every word carried a sting. “So have you had your fill of the bitterness of marriage?”

“It wasn’t bitter,” Winter said with a faint smile. “It was just disgusting.”
