Chapter 475
“Did she admit it herself?” Winter asked, her eyes red as she looked at Chris.
“She escaped during the chaos. I’ve already sent people to find her.”
Chris turned on the main light in the hospital room.
As the room brightened, the tears on Winter’s face became impossible to miss.
As he spoke, he pulled out a tissue and wiped them away for her.
“Sasha had no direct contact with Skyla. But the fact that she was able to get Fabian to send people to the prison to save Steve proves she had ties to the border forces long before this.”
How could that be?
Winter lowered her head and started picking at her fingers.
“Why would she hurt Grandma?”
Chris caught her fingers and pulled them apart. Sure enough, the places she had picked at were already raw. It was her way of protecting herself, but it was also a way of hurting herself.
He held her hand firmly, not allowing her to do it again.
“She’s ambitious. Back then, Grandma made my uncle hand the Xander Corporation over to me, and Sasha never got over it. She hated Grandma for it, and that hatred eventually turned murderous.”
Sasha hadn’t acted ten years ago because she wanted everyone to be fooled by the false image she had created.
Most likely, her fight and separation from Julian back then had also been because of this.
At the time, Chris had been fully occupied with taking over the Xander Corporation and had no attention to spare for their problems. Julian had always been a man of few words, and he never spoke to anyone about personal matters, especially not matters of the heart.
Even Mrs. Xander Sr. had been kept in the dark.
It was only recently, after Julian called and asked him to show Steve mercy, that Chris had gone to see him privately and asked about the fight between him and Sasha all those years ago.
No wonder no one had noticed.
What a vicious way to poison someone.
Winter had never imagined that this was how Mrs. Xander Sr. had been poisoned.
She thought of how obediently Mrs. Xander Sr. had gone through all the medical checks Winter arranged while she was still alive. In the end, the doctors had found nothing. Mrs. Xander Sr. had only patted Winter’s hand and comforted her, saying that old age was simply like that.
If Winter had been a little more careful, would things have turned out differently?
Afraid she would sink into guilt, Chris cut off her thoughts.
“So Grandma’s death had nothing to do with you or the Scott family. I’ll find Sasha. But before that, can I ask you something?”
“What?” Winter looked at him through her tears.
Chris quietly sat down beside her on the hospital bed and asked, “On the day of the accident, why did you drive to the docks?”
