Chapter 468
Chris’s usually cold, detached gaze moved to the woman.
Compared with the hint of reunion-like warmth in her “Long time no see,” his reaction was almost too calm. He looked at her no differently than he would any other doctor or employee.
Dominic wasn’t surprised.
Chris had never been an easy person to get close to. His temper was strange, and so was his personality. Getting him to treat anyone differently was harder than climbing the sky.
The only reason he had ever managed to show Skyla even the slightest softness was because of Richie.
But Dominic had heard what the female doctor called him just now.
Roy?
“What’s going on?” he asked, turning his head toward Chris.
Chris pressed his lips together slightly. His expression remained faint, and he clearly had no intention of explaining
Roy Toye was the name Chris had chosen ten years ago, right before he left for an undercover mission
He had chosen it because of Winter.
The mission was so dangerous that he knew he might not come back. But before he left, the only person he could think about was her.
Even the farewell letter he wrote had been for her.
As some memory surfaced, his brows drew together slightly. But it lasted only a moment before he looked at Olivia and said, My real name is Chris Xander.”
His tone was distant.
Olivia paused.
Old, faded memories flashed through her mind.
A man with a close-cropped haircut, wearing a black tank top, sat quietly on a low stool outside a small house on the island. His hawk-like eyes watched the boats passing through the harbor.
Several times, she had seen him holding a stick and drawing something in the dirt.
But every time she tried to get closer, he would silently step on the place where the stick had moved. She never saw what he had written, though she could vaguely tell it was two words.
This man was still the same as before.
He was cold and distant with everyone.
A moment later, she smiled openly and changed her address without hesitation.
“Of course, Mr. Xander.
“Wait. Did I actually guess right?”
The hospital room fell briefly silent.
It was so quiet that Dominic started to feel uneasy. Just as he was about to speak, Chris said in a low voice,
pretending to be a couple. We were pretending to be married.”
Dominic stared at him.
“Another fake marriage?”
The moment the words left his mouth, Chris’s sharp gaze cut toward him without mercy. A chill immediately ran down Dominic’s spine.
“What’s with that look? Did I say something wrong?”
Dominic quickly stood and backed up a few steps, stopping only when he was sure Chris could not reach him.
He glanced back at the door, then said, “You had a fake marriage with Winer, and you had a fake marriage with that doctor too What is this? Are you addicted to fake marriages?”
He was only wording it this politely because Chris was injured,
Otherwise, he really would have said Chris had turned fake marriage into a profession.
