Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 443

When William returned, Winter had finally stopped throwing up.

Wendy had arrived a few minutes before him and was wiping Winter’s face. Mr. White stood nearby with red eyes, silently cleaning up the mess on the floor.

“What exactly is wrong with her?”

After Winter had fallen asleep, William pulled her primary physician and the consulting psychiatrist out into the hallway. The second he spoke, he realized his voice was shaking violently.

Winter’s condition was no longer just a simple refusal to eat.

He was absolutely terrified.

The psychologist said, “Based on her current condition, Ms. Scott has a documented history of severe insomnia and has been heavily abusing sleeping pills. We’re looking at clinical depression.”

The word depression hit him like a punch to the chest.

For a moment, he almost thought he had heard wrong.

“Depression? How is that possible?”

“But Ms. Scott is not cooperating with the evaluation right now, so I am confident in my diagnosis.”

The word felt completely foreign to him, and even more detached from the Winter he knew. She had always been so good at managing her own stress. Her emotional well-being had never been something he had to worry about.

“She can’t keep any food down right now, so we’ll have to give her IV nutrition for the time being. Otherwise, her body won’t be able to hold on.”

William felt unsteady. He could barely hear what the doctor said after that. Guilt filled his chest until his eyes turned red.

He hadn’t even known Winter had been taking sleeping pills.

Why hadn’t he noticed something was wrong sooner? Why hadn’t he taken her to get help earlier?

How long had she been taking them?

William immediately had someone look into Winter’s medical history. Only then did he learn that, over the past year, she had been prescribed sleeping pills on and off at several different hospitals.

The earliest prescription was from three months after the induced labor.

William slapped himself hard.

Based on how often she had filled the prescriptions and what the doctors had noted at the time, she had only been showing signs of depression back then.

The real trigger for her current breakdown was remembering the memories Chris had erased through hypnosis five years ago.

If Chris hadn’t been selfish, if he hadn’t let Winter keep the memory of loving him, she wouldn’t have given up her chance to go abroad. She wouldn’t have stayed by his side to take care of him after he went blind. She wouldn’t have insisted on marrying him.

And in the end, she wouldn’t have been left with wounds all over her body and soul.

Chris staggered back under the force of William’s shove, his badly injured body barely staying upright.

Gavin and Dominic immediately stepped forward to support him.

But Chris brushed their hands away, steadied himself, and walked toward the door without a word.

It was obvious he was going to Winter’s room.

William’s voice turned cold.

“Are you trying to kill her?”

Chris froze.

William stared at his back and said with finality, “If you can’t let her go, then don’t see her. Otherwise, you really will destroy her.”

Chris’s tall figure went rigid where he stood.
