Chapter 427
“That’s good.” Wendy finally let out a breath of relief.
Gavin’s face remained unreadable. He only glanced toward the emergency room.
Winter would be all right.
But Chris’s condition was still uncertain.
A little while later, the elevator doors opened again, and Dominic hurried out.
“Gavin, how are Chris and Winter?”
He had spent the entire night in the ICU. Harvey’s condition had worsened in the second half of the night, and Dominic had stayed by his side without moving an inch.
But he was not Chris.
When Harvey started crying, Dominic could not calm him down no matter what he did. In the end, he took out his phone and found a voice message Chris had sent him before. Only after hearing Chris’s voice did the little boy gradually stop crying-
The problem was what Chris had said in that voice message.
“I’ll have someone find you a few men’s health specialists. There’s nothing embarrassing about not being able to perform.”
The ICU had gone completely silent.
The medical staff who usually cared for Har were all there.
Worse, Harvey wasn’t satisfied with hearing it once. Dominic had to play it again and again.
Seeing the exhaustion on Dominic’s face, Gavin could guess that Harvey hadn’t been doing well.
“Mrs. Xander’s injuries are serious. Mr. Xander is still being treated.”
Dominic frowned and looked toward the emergency room, his expression grave.
Last night, when Chris had entrusted Harvey to him, Dominic had known the situation was dangerous.
But he hadn’t expected it to come to this.
His heart ached when he thought of Harvey, who had only just fallen asleep.
Why did this family of three have to suffer so much?
“What about Skyla?” Dominic asked quickly.
It wasn’t that he cared whether Skyla lived or died.
He only cared whether her bone marrow could save his nephew.
Chris was still being resuscitated.
Inside the ICU, Winter opened her eyes for less than five seconds before slipping back into unconsciousness.
It was as if some instinct had forced her awake just long enough to confirm where she was.
No one saw that the moment she opened her eyes, her hand instinctively went to the scar between her thumb and forefinger. After she fell unconscious again, the doctor finished examining her and left.
The monitors in the room beeped in a steady, regular rhythm.
Sweat gathered on Winter’s forehead. Even in her sleep, her brows were tightly drawn together, and tears slipped from the corners of her eyes into the pillow.
It was as if she were trapped in a nightmare.
Her bloodless lips moved slightly.
Her voice was so faint that no one heard it.
“Chris Xander, I regret ever loving you.
“I will never marry you. Not unless I’m dead.
“You’re the reason my parents took their own lives.”
