Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 425

Chapter 425

“Really?” Winter no longer fought him the way she had moments ago. Her voice was very low, and her face was pale as paper.

William’s chest ached at the sight of her. At that moment, he didn’t care that she was leaning against Chris. As long as she calmed down, that was enough.

He said quietly, “Of course. Skyla is vicious. She said all that on purpose to hurt you. Why would you take her words to heart?”

After saying that, he glanced at Chris.

Chris only looked down at Winter in his arms, but William couldn’t forget the tear that had fallen from Chris’s eye the moment he shot Skyla.

It had shaken him badly.

What exactly had Skyla been about to say?

Not far away, Sean noticed William pressing a hand to his abdomen, and his brows drew together.

He must have pulled his wound open.

Sean strode toward him.

“We need to get down the mountain first,” Chris said, tightening his arm around Winter.

Just as he was about to lift her, the satellite phone in one of his bodyguards’ pockets vibrated.

“Mr. Xander, it’s Gavin,” the bodyguard said.

Chris took the phone.

Gavin’s normally steady voice carried a rage he could barely hold back.

“Mr. Xander, Fabian and Garrett got away. They had another helicopter waiting.”

Fabian would never come without a backup plan. Chris wasn’t surprised by that.

Above the mountain, the helicopters Fabian had sent were fleeing in defeat.

Chris’s jaw tightened.

On the surface, his side had won.

But something still felt wrong.

This time, Fabian had openly rescued Skyla and Steve. He had completely thrown away a protected identity. While it fit his style, Fabian would never waste an opportunity like this for so little.

With Fabian’s level of planning, there was no way he had prepared a retreat strategy for nothing.

The thought flashed through Chris’s mind.

Chris held the silent Winter within his arms and frowned slightly.

Chapter 425

Pretending to be dead and passing a quick check wasn’t difficult for her.

Her fingers found the detonator hidden inside her sleeve.

The explosion that had stopped Winter and William from going down the mountain earlier had come from an explosive she had taken from Garrett.

She had wanted to gamble one last time.

She wanted to kill Winter with her own hands, right in front of Chris, and make Winter die in pain.

Everyone thought she had lost.

But she hadn’t lost.

She still had the detonator.

If she could die with Chris, then she had still won.

The corner of Skyla’s mouth slowly curved upward. A low, eerie laugh slid from her lips.

The sound was faint and nearly swallowed by the wind, but everyone there heard it.

When William saw the black detonator in Skyla’s hand, and Winter was getting closer and closer to her, a shout tore its way from his throat.

He lunged toward Winter, but at the most critical second, Sean grabbed his arm and held him back.
