Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 420

Chapter 420

Along the narrow mountain path, Chris strode toward William and Winter.

His hiking boots scraped over the loose gravel with every step. Blood dripped from between his fingers and fell onto the stone

Armed bodyguards surrounded them. A pale half–moon hung above the ridge, and overhead, armed helicopters were still loc in a fierce fight.

But Fabian’s side was clearly losing.

The battle looked like it was almost over.

Winter took the chance to pull free from William’s hand and push him behind her. Her eyes were red as she faced Chris.

He had really meant to kill William just now.

“What do you want from me?” she asked.

William stepped forward again and reached for her arm, trying to pull her behind him.

But the moment his hand touched her, he felt how stiff she was beneath her sleeve.

She was trembling.

He stopped.

After twenty years of knowing each other, he understood her too well.

This time, he couldn’t step in for her.

So he let go.

But he stayed right beside her.

“Come here,” Chris said quietly.

His eyes were so dark they seemed bottomless. Not even the moonlight could reach them. He didn’t look at anyone else. With every step he took, his gaze stayed fixed on Winter.

His voice was low, but it still made the air around them turn cold.

For some reason, seeing him like this made Winter think of what had happened after they tell from the cliff.

The promise he had made between life and death, saying he would tollow her.

The way he had taken off his jacket without hesitation.

The broad, steady back that had carried her through the forest

She forced down the ache in her chest

“Go back with you?” she asked. “So we can keep dragging each other through this endless mess

The rescue at sea last time

This desperate rescue tonight

Winter let out a cold laugh and turned away, refusing to look at him.

“What will it take for you to let me go?

Chris’s throat moved slightly. His gaze stayed on her stubborn profile as he said hoarsely, “Stop saying things like that.”

A cold wind swept in from the side.

He shifted one step on the gravel.

The second he moved, the Zeller bodyguards adjusted their aim. If he tried anything, they would fire.

The bodyguards beside Chris silently reached for their backup guns. If a fight broke out with this many people, one gun wasafn t be enough.

But Chris only took one step.

He moved in front of Winter and did nothing else.

He was only blocking the wind for her.

He looked down at her, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“Come back with me. Fabian may still have men hiding in these woods It’s not safe here”
