Chapter 395
After hanging up with Chris, Dominic pulled on a pair of pants, grabbed a hoodie, and left his room.
As he went downstairs, his steps felt unsteady in a way they never had before. His mind was filled with one sentence from Chris.
“Harvey Xander. My son with Winter.”
A chill ran over Dominic’s scalp.
Hadn’t his nephew died before he was even born? Hadn’t Winter been forced to deliver him early because there was no way to save him?
So how was he suddenly in a hospital?
Dominic didn’t dare waste a second. He grabbed the keys to his fastest sports car.
Just as he reached the door, the butler spoke up. “Sir, your sister called. She said she won’t be coming home tonight.”
Dominic’s hand tightened around the keys. He let out a cold, mocking laugh. “My dear sister is getting bolder by the day. I’ll deal with her later.”
The old butler looked visibly awkward.
Dominic ignored him and strode toward the garage.
When he arrived at the hospital, he went straight to the ICU and found Dr. Lucas, just as Chris had instructed.
At first, Dr. Lucas played dumb. Even after Dominic said Harvey’s name, he was still doubtful. It wasn’t until he received a message from Chris that he finally believed him.
The signal at the foot of the mountain was poor, so the message had come through late.
Only then did Dr. Lucas believe that Chris had entrusted Richie to Dominic.
“Did something happen to Mr. Xander?” Dr. Lucas asked gravely as he led Dominic toward the sterilization room.
Richie’s existence had always been a secret. Chris had never revealed even a word about him to anyone. If nothing had happened, he never would have entrusted Richie to someone else.
“Just take care of the child and wait for him to come back,” Dominic said,
Dominic stepped into the sterilization room. The sharp smell of disinfectant hit him, but his expression did not change as he followed the procedure to wash and disinfect his hands.
Those brows. Those eyes. That little stare.
He looked like both Chris and Winter. This was his nephew. There was no doubt about it.
“Can I… shake your hand?” Dominic crouched in front of the little boy and reached out carefully.
The bottle in the little boy’s hands was about to slip.
Dominic’s heart tightened. He quickly reached out to steady the bottom of the bottle, his eyes growing hot.
“Don’t be scared. I’m your uncle.”
“Da… da…” The little boy’s head tilted weakly against the small couch.
Then he used all his strength to shake his head and made a tiny sound.
“Mm–mm…”
