Chapter 357
The sound of running water came from the bathroom.
At the sink, blood mixed with the water and disappeared down the drain.
A phone began ringing in the bedroom.
The woman in the mirror moved her neck, then turned toward the sound. A few spots of blood still marked her face.
The ringing continued for a long while.
Then the water stopped.
The room fell silent.
After a moment, a wet hand picked up the phone from the floor and answered.
The person on the other end said in a low voice, “I found something about the person you asked me to look into. A couple of days ago, Chris’s bodyguards escorted someone in and out of the hospital. I think that’s the person you’re looking for.”
“Who is it?” Skyla asked lightly.
“A stage actress.”
A flash of murderous intent crossed Skyla’s eyes.
A woman.
After Chris had brought her back to the country, he hadn’t spoken much to her. Apart from his relatively mild tone, his attitude toward her had always been distant.
But he had still agreed to give her the ruby bracelet, even though it was not the one that had belonged to Winter’s mother.
He had agreed to let her live in Westbury.
He had personally taken her to the hospital for checkups. When she said she had no appetite, he had even eaten with her once or twice.
Even with his cold and distant manner, she had still fallen for him completely.
That special treatment belonged to her.
How could he give it to any other woman?
Now another woman had appeared.
Just thinking about it made Skyla want to destroy her.
Skyla murmured, “Kill her…”
Chris could only use her blood.
He could only need her.
Winter was drunk. Wrapped in a blanket and held in an unusually comfortable position, she slept deeply.
But because she had fallen asleep too early, she woke before dawn.
Most of the alcohol had worn off by then. She opened her drowsy eyes and saw Chris leaning against the back of the seat with his eyes closed.
She loved the stars.
She loved the moon.
And he had known how she felt about him long before she finally lost control and ran to him to confess.
That moment had been the one chance he allowed himself.
A chance to forget everything and fall with her.
On the island, she had boldly said she wanted to drink with him. Behind his back, she even switched the labels on the bottles, putting labels from weaker alcohol onto the stronger ones.
In the end, she got drunk first, and he carried her to bed. Only after he coaxed her did she finally admit her plan.
She had wanted to get him drunk, take advantage of the moment, and make him hers for the rest of his life.
For half a month, that island had been their private paradise.
There were no outsiders.
There were no phones.
There was no one to disturb them.
He and twenty-year-old Winter loved each other freely on that secret island, hidden away from the rest of the world.
Back then, they had come so close.
