Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 356

Chapter 356

Winter was far too drunk to stand. Chris lifted her into his arms, and her head fell softly against his chest.

He carried her off the terrace and down the steps.

The staff were already waiting downstairs.

They had heard the helicopter and knew Chris was taking Winter away again. Once he and Winter left, they would leave too. They would only return from time to time to clean the house, maintain the grounds, care for the flowers and the lake Winter loved most.

It had been this way for years.

“Mr. Xander,” the staff said in unison.

Chris walked steadily with Winter in his arms. She didn’t feel even the slightest jolt. It was as smooth as if she were sleeping in a bed.

When he stepped out of the villa, moonlight fell over them. The sea breeze carried waves of floral scent through the air.

The island was planted with rare, expensive flowers. If Winter had paid closer attention, she would have recognized the same notes from the perfume she had used earlier that afternoon.

Chris carried her toward the helicopter.

Then a vague, slurred voice came from his arms.

“Did I… before…”

Chris stopped.

The arm around her stiffened.

He looked down at the woman in his arms, her eyes hazy with drunkenness, and tightened his hold.

Her voice was muffled against his chest.

“Did I… come here before?”

Under the moonlight, Chris stood with Winter in his arms, surrounded by a sea of flowers. The blossoms swayed in the ocean wind, gathering around them like a quiet tide. Not far away, the crescent-shaped lake shimmered beneath the moon, its ripples breaking the light into tiny silver fragments.

He lowered his head and kissed her forehead.

“You did.”

This is your third time here, Winnie.

The room was a mess. The lamp from the nightstand had been smashed to the floor, its glass shade shattered into pieces.

The caregiver flinched and looked up, only to meet Skyla’s dark amber eyes.

They were cold enough to make her blood run thin.

“Ms. Jasper, I’m sorry. I…”

Skyla’s long hair hung beside her face. She stared at the caregiver and asked in a chilling voice, “Didn’t I tell you not to disturb me when I’m on the phone? Why don’t you ever listen?”

“I’m sorry, Ms. Jasper…” The caregiver dropped to her knees in fear.

“Shh.” Skyla shook her head, cutting her off. Her face was blank as she said, “I’m tired of hearing that.”

The caregiver’s broken sobs drifted out of the villa.

But no one stepped forward to plead for her.

The curtains were drawn tight across the lit bedroom window. Only a single shadow could be seen moving slowly behind them.

Then, all at once, the caregiver’s crying stopped.
