Chapter 342
The moment his lips crashed into hers, Winter tasted the sharp salt of seawater.
She frowned, but he pushed in without hesitation, catching her retreating tongue and tangling with it.
He was soaked through. Water dripped steadily from him onto her, soaking her clothes until she was just as wet.
His strength pinned her to the deck. His hands pressed down on her shoulders, keeping her from turning away.
His long legs forced hers apart, trapping her so she couldn’t kick or fight back.
After a while, he lifted his head and looked down at her. Her lips were swollen from the kiss.
Something dark churned in his eyes.
“Aren’t you afraid I’d die out there?” he asked.
His voice was rough, not as calm as usual. There was anger in it, and something else, faint and almost hidden.
She didn’t catch that.
She only answered with a trace of regret, “What a shame.”
In truth, she knew he would come back.
If something like that could kill him, then he wouldn’t be who he was.
Hearing her say it like she wished he had died, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he laughed.
He gripped her chin, his voice low and rough with a hint of amusement. “Winnie, I changed my mind.
She froze.
The next second, he pulled her into his arms and jumped with her into the sea.
The sun was high, and the water wasn’t cold.
But once she was in it, the deep blue turned darker, almost black beneath her feet, like a bottomless drop.
Instinctively, her body searched for something to hold on to.
Earlier, when she pushed him, she had been reckless, driven by the urge to get back at him, not caring what happened. But now that he had dragged her into the water, she couldn’t afford to lose control.
So that was what he meant when he said he had changed his mind. He regretted not pulling her in with him.
She reached back instinctively, trying to grab onto the yacht.
As the spray flew toward them, he lowered his head and pressed her against his chest, shielding her.
When they reached shore, Winter slapped him across the face.
Then she turned and walked straight toward the house.
Chris stood there, watching her retreating figure, the blanket wrapped around her.
His lips pressed into a thin line.
The house here was laid out like the main residence back at Blackwood Manor.
Winter went straight upstairs.
But the second floor was different.
Back at Blackwood Manor, there had been two bedrooms. One for her, and one for him.
Here, there was only one.
As if the two rooms had been merged into a single bedroom.
