Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 341

Chapter 341

Memories flashed through her mind like a reel on fast-forward.

She had once loved him so deeply she couldn’t pull herself out. She had ignored William’s warnings and insisted on marrying him.

Three years had taught her one thing.

Wanting too much always came with a price.

What she got in return was a love that was never returned. Three years of being played. And the one she hated most still walked free, untouched.

The more she had loved him, the more she hated him now.

Winter’s gaze drifted out to the open water.

The yacht was open-air. The helm was not far from the edge.

Behind her, his hand moved clumsily against the back of her head, a gesture meant to soothe.

Once, she had wanted nothing more than for him to hold her, to comfort her, to protect her.

Now, she didn’t care anymore.

“I’m not doing anything to you,” he said, his voice low against her ear.

She frowned, her already burning eyes turning even redder.

Then she let out a cold laugh.

Before he could react, her hands, finally free, slammed hard against his chest.

Her legs were still trapped between his, so when he was pushed off balance and tipped backward over the side, she was dragged with him.

She didn’t care.

They were about to go over together.

At the last second, his hand braced against her shoulder. The force pushed her upward, sending her back onto the yacht, while Chris’s body dropped hard into the dark blue water.

A burst of white spray shot up, blocking her view.

Just before he disappeared, she caught a glimpse of his leg. It seemed to cramp violently.

Then the water settled.

Waves rolled against the yacht. Aside from the sound of the sea and distant seabirds, everything went quiet.

It was as if nothing had happened at all.

Winter sat there, the sun falling across her clothes, now damp from the splash.

The air was warm. Even soaked, she shouldn’t have felt cold.

But the spot over her chest felt different.

Chapter 425

Before Skyla collapsed, her hand was still locked around Winter’s arm. Her nails dug in so hard it felt as if she meant to tear through Winter’s skin.

Even after the bullet hit her and she fell, she still didn’t let go.

Skyla’s weight dragged Winter backward. Winter’s legs had gone weak, and she couldn’t hold herself up. She started to fall with her.

Before she hit the ground, a dark figure rushed toward her.

Winter was pulled up and held tightly against a hard, ice-cold chest. Back in the woods, Chris had given her his jacket, and the clothes he had left on were soaked through and freezing.

Chris kicked Skyla away.

The baby had died in place of...

Why couldn’t she figure it out?

“Winter!”

Chris’s arm tightened around her waist. He caught her hand before she could hurt herself again, his grip so tight that the veins stood out on the back of his hand.

He called her name in a low, urgent voice, trying to bring her back to herself.

Winter looked up at his bloodshot eyes and asked, almost pleading, “Chris, do you know what happened? What was Skyla going to say?”

Chris’s chest rose and fell. His voice was hoarse, threaded with a bitterness no one else could understand.

“Let’s get down the mountain first.”

“No.” Winter grabbed at his arm. “Let me ask her. I need to know what happened. Chris, let go of me. Let go!

“Why didn’t you let her finish? You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?”

She had lost all reason. She had completely forgotten that, only moments ago, she had been on the edge of death. Skyla’s words kept echoing in her mind like a curse, over and over, tormenting her until the pain became almost unbearable.

It hurt so much she wanted to tear the feeling out of her chest.

“Winnie!”

Chris stared at her empty eyes.

She looked exactly the way she had more than a year ago, after the induced labor.

A wave of fear slammed into him, so hard his heart seemed to stop. His arms went rigid as he held her tighter.

He cupped the back of her head and pressed her face into the curve of his shoulder. Then, as if no one else existed, he lowered his head and kissed her forehead.

“Listen to me,” he said. “I shot her to keep you safe. Don’t think about what she said.”
