Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 335

Winter stepped out onto the porch and stopped, unsure where to go. She lingered there as a breeze drifted through, carrying a few dandelion seeds with it. With nothing better to do, she lifted her hand and caught one.

Something only a kid would do.

Then again, people did all kinds of pointless things when they were bored.

She heard his cool voice behind her.

Whether it was her fingers trembling or another gust of wind, the dandelion seed slipped away and floated off.

He had kept his word.

He said he would answer her question after breakfast, and now he was doing it.

There was no point struggling anymore. She couldn’t leave this island, and she couldn’t avoid him. Fighting it would only wear her down. She might as well untangle the knot in her chest, at least so she would understand things clearly.

But the moment he spoke, something in her jolted. It felt like a current ran straight through her chest, leaving her back stiff and numb.

After a pause, she said without turning around, “I don’t want to know that. Who you care about has nothing to do with me.”

Chris tightened his grip slightly on the glass of milk she had only finished halfway.

His voice dropped. “Then what do you want to ask?”

She was just about to speak when he caught her hand and pressed the glass into it.

His fingers brushed hers. They were cool. His brow creased faintly.

Winter, however, took the glass and immediately stepped back, putting distance between them, as if being any closer would make her uncomfortable.

His lips pressed into a thin line. There was a flicker of irritation in his otherwise calm gaze.

“Talk,” he said, his voice low.

Winter tightened her grip on the glass and leaned back against the stone pillar. The sea breeze lifted the loose strands of hair around her face.

She tipped her head back and took a long drink, almost like she was downing alcohol instead of milk.

Chris watched her, his eyes narrowing slightly. What kind of question had she been holding onto that it weighed on her like this?

“When you said the divorce papers in the study weren’t ours, I thought you were just lying to avoid it,” she said. ” Later, I realized you were telling the truth. We were never legally married, so there was nothing to divorce.

Back then, he had refused to agree to a divorce. Everything he said and did had made it feel real. No one would have guessed their marriage had never even been legal.

She let out a cold laugh. “Then how do you explain that photo on the island. The one you conveniently got rid of?”

Something in his expression tightened at her choice of words.

He frowned. “It was a cover marriage. Do you think anyone goes undercover using their real name. If it is not your real identity, how do you legally register anything?”

Another cover marriage.

Of course.

She had done undercover work herself. How had she been so slow to realize it. He must have used a false identity back then.

But hearing those words felt like a thorn digging into her nerves. Whatever composure she had left snapped.

She gave a cold, mocking laugh. “You are really a pro at fake marriages, Mr. Xander. No wonder you make it look so easy.
