Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 308

Chapter 308

She couldn’t let Chris know that she had recognized the bracelet from the very beginning as one that had belonged to Winter’s mother.

Otherwise, he would have seen through her real reason for asking for the bracelet in the first place. She had wanted to use it to get under Winter’s skin.

Chris’s fingers paused on the document. Then he looked up, his black eyes deep and cold as still water.

Knew early on that it wasn’t what?

“Not the original one,” Skyla said, sounding regretful. “So it was switched out. Have you found out who did it?”

No.

After signing the document, Chris took the glass of water Gavin had just poured for him. He drank a sip, set it down, and rose to his feet.

“Get some rest.”

Was he leaving already?

Instinctively, Skyla reached for the hem of his coat. Chris looked down, a faint crease appearing between his brows. Her hand froze in midair, and she had no choice but to pull it back.

“I haven’t seen you in days. Can’t you stay and talk to me a little longer?”

Chris’s voice was cool and distant. “Didn’t you faint a few days ago? Go get a full checkup the day after tomorrow. I’ll have a car pick you up.”

Skyla watched his back as he walked away. Her eyes burned, and she had to take a deep breath to stop herself from calling after him.

She knew Chris liked people who were more obedient.

Lowering her eyes to the ruby bracelet on her wrist, Skyla felt disappointment and anger knot together inside her.

When she asked Chris for it back then, he had given it to her without the slightest hesitation. Had he done that because she once saved him? Or because he had known from the start that it wasn’t Winter’s mother’s bracelet?

If it wasn’t that bracelet, then what was the point of wearing it?

Skyla grabbed one end of the bracelet with her right hand, about to yank it off.

Then she stopped.

Back when Jacob was in the hospital, she had run into Winter, The lights outside the hospital building had been dim, and Winter had been standing some distance away, so she had mistaken the bracelet for her mother’s. Right in front of Chris, Skyla had even asked whether he wanted to give it to Winter.

Chris’s answer had been, “What I gave you is yours.

Chris picked up the sapphire bracelet Steve had put on Winter’s wrist, the one he had removed from her that evening, and lowered the car window.

Under the streetlights, a brilliant blue arc flashed across the air. The bracelet dropped from the bridge into the river below.

Trash like that had no business touching her.

Chris took a wet wipe and cleaned his hands. “Get a few things ready for me,” he said to Gavin. “Some injuries are easier to show than explain.”

Gavin kept his eyes on the road. To anyone else, the comment would have made no sense, but he was clearly used to it. He just nodded.

The next day, Winter got into the passenger seat.

With both hands on the wheel, Zion hesitated for a moment before asking, “Should we call G first? If we just show up at his place like this, do you think it might be a bad time?”

Roy was loyal, no question about that, but everyone had their own rhythm to life. A man like him, especially, who always kept to himself, probably had all kinds of habits and rules.

And on top of that, he had failed to protect Winter. Zion figured Roy’s pride had probably taken a serious hit. It seemed better to call ahead first. What if Roy didn’t even want to see them?

But Winter only put on her sunglasses and lifted her chin slightly.

“We’ll talk when we get to his door.”
