Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 307

Hearing him say that, Skyla felt a rush of sweetness in her chest. At the same time, a flash of cold resolve flickered through her lowered eyes.

Of course nothing would happen to him.

She would never allow anything bad to happen to him.

Her tears turned into a smile. She called for the caregiver to get everything ready, then said to Chris, “The herb water is ready. Go wash your hands. You just came back from detention. You should wash off the bad luck.”

They went inside.

A basin of water had already been set on the table, along with a few other things beside it.

Chris only gave it a brief glance before walking over. The clean scent of herbs rose from the water.

He washed his hands in the basin, dried them with a handkerchief, and asked casually, Is there any extra?”

The caregiver froze for a second, then quickly smiled. “Yes, there is. There’s more in the kitchen. Do you need it?”

“Bring some for Ms. Jasper too. Let her wash her hands as well.” Chris tossed the handkerchief into the trash.

Behind him, Skyla’s hand tightened slightly. A flicker of confusion crossed her face.

“Me? I don’t think that’s necessary.”

Chris said lightly, “It’s freezing out. It won’t hurt.”

The caregiver didn’t dare go against him. She went to the kitchen and brought back another basin of herb water. Then she walked over to Skyla, bending slightly as she held it out.

Ms. Jasper.”

Skyla pressed her lips together and lowered her pale, slender hands into the basin, washing them a few times. Then she took the handkerchief from the caregiver and dried them.

As she moved, her sleeve slipped up slightly, revealing the ruby bracelet on her left wrist.

Her hand stilled for a moment.

She thought of what Jimmy had said when he saw the bracelet the other day.

He had told her this wasn’t the bracelet that had belonged to Winter’s mother.

The stones were all real. That much was true.

But what she wanted was Winter’s mother’s bracelet.

She wanted Winter to see for herself how well Chris treated her.

His taste had changed during the year he was blind.

Before that, he had never imagined anyone could take a top–grade green tea picked from old mountain tea trees and brew it until it tasted like dishwater.

He took the urgent file Gavin handed him, the one that had just been delivered from the company.

Then Skyla watched him open it and say, without the slightest emotion, “It was switched before it ever made it to me.”

Skyla’s breathing tightened.

So it really wasn’t Winter’s mother’s bracelet.

That meant Jimmy hadn’t been mistaken.

“So you already knew it wasn’t…” Skyla blurted out, then stopped abruptly.
