Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 295

Chapter 295

In a second-floor room at Westbury, it was already late into the night, but Skyla still couldn’t fall asleep.

“Ms. Jasper, why are you still up?” Seeing the light on in the room, the caregiver knocked and walked in.

Skyla gripped her phone tightly, her eyes red. “Has there been any news from the Xander family?”

The caregiver shook her head. “No.”

Skyla frowned hard.

It had already been three days since Chris had come under formal investigation. Ever since he was taken away, she hadn’t been able to reach him, and she hadn’t been able to get in touch with Gavin either.

Chris’s sudden downfall had completely thrown off all her original plans. But right now, she didn’t care about any of that. She only wanted him to be safe, to appear in front of her again unharmed.

That was why, when the bodyguard suggested yesterday that she return to the house at Westbury, she didn’t refuse. She also had no intention of pretending to be dizzy anymore.

But even now, she still had no idea what Chris’s situation was in detention. Dominic would only say that Chris was cooperating with the investigation. No matter what else she asked, she couldn’t get a single extra detail.

Chris was such a proud man. How could someone like him possibly endure being smeared like this? Being locked in detention, stripped of his freedom, and forced to bear so much public scorn and abuse would be a crushing blow to his pride.

She would never allow anyone to tarnish Chris’s name.

Seeing how troubled she looked, the caregiver tried to persuade her. “You should get some rest. Staying up late is bad for your health.”

“Go out first,” Skyla said coldly. “Close the door, and don’t wake me before ten tomorrow morning.”

The caregiver froze for a second, then nodded. “Yes, Ms. Jasper.”

She absolutely didn’t dare disturb Skyla’s sleep.

On the night of New Year’s Day, Skyla had also told her not to wake her before ten the next morning but she had forgotten.

At nine-thirty, she had opened the door and walked in, only to find Skyla sitting on the edge of the bed with a coat draped over her shoulders. She had turned and stared at her with a sharp, furious look and scolded her on the spot.

It had frightened the caregiver so badly her legs nearly gave out. Thankfully, Skyla hadn’t pursued the matter after

that.

After the caregiver left, she closed the bedroom door behind her.

Winter sat at the desk in her room and closed her laptop.

Early the next morning, William was picked up by a car Sean had sent for him. They said Mr. Zeller Sr. wasn’t doing well.

Before leaving, William had even come to her room to tuck the blanket around her and remind her that she had to wait for him tomorrow so he could personally take her to the airport.

The truth was, she had lied to William, and she had lied to Roy too.

Her flight wasn’t tomorrow morning. It was this afternoon.

She didn’t want anyone to know exactly when she was leaving. It wasn’t because she didn’t trust William and Roy. She just wanted to spare them unnecessary trouble.

Chris’s cold warning still rang in her ears from that day.

“Don’t even think about leaving Liono City. If anyone dares help you, I will make them pay with their life. William included.”
