Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 258

He wasn’t going to let her leave for another two weeks.

Winter suddenly clenched the bedsheet beneath her, like someone on the verge of drowning, clutching the only thing that might keep her afloat.

She wanted to pretend she hadn’t heard him. She wanted to ignore what Chris had said.

But his words kept circling in her head. In the end, she couldn’t stop herself from speaking, even with his threats hanging over her.

Her voice carried a trace of exhaustion and strain. “Are you keeping me here by force?”

When he brought her here on New Year’s Day, he had at least left her some room to breathe. He hadn’t taken her phone. He had even taken her out to eat.

But this time, he was cutting her off from the outside world completely.

This was house arrest. There was no other way to describe it.

“Blackwood Manor is the size of thirty basketball courts,” Chris said. As his words fell, he saw the shape of the blanket over her stiffen slightly. “That’s plenty of space for you to move around.”

He didn’t deny it.

He didn’t deny that he was keeping her here.

What a joke.

Did it stop being house arrest just because the place was bigger and more comfortable?

Still turned away from him, she said in a cold voice, “If all you want is to hide Skyla and protect her, why do you need two weeks?

For someone like Chris, making a person disappear would take nothing more than a word.

What Winter didn’t know was that after they left Westbury, Skyla had already been secretly moved by Gavin’s men. By the time the Zeller family’s bodyguards got there, she was already gone.

Winter closed her eyes and heard Chris’s low voice behind her.

“Wait two weeks.”

She didn’t want to hear another word from him.

By the time he finally let her out, she might not even know where Skyla was anymore.

And even if she found her, Chris would still protect her.

His fingertips brushed a tear at the corner of her eye, still warm.

He wanted to see how Chris planned to clean up a mess this big. Just picturing Chris firing at Winter was enough to make his skin crawl.

What kind of secret was Skyla hiding for Chris to shoot at Winter over her?

There was no use asking Gavin. That man was impossible to read, and even harder to get anything out of. When it came to Chris, his mouth was always sealed shut. You could put a knife to his throat, and he would probably swallow both the blade and the secret.

Dominic was dying to know.

The second he reached the top of the stairs, he saw the door to Chris’s bedroom open.

Chris stepped out in a black robe and closed the door behind him. His hair was still damp, so he had obviously just

showered.

A look of amused curiosity flickered across Dominic’s face, but it vanished just as quickly. Chris had shot at Winter. There was no way she would agree to anything like that, and Chris probably wasn’t in the mood either.

Pushing those pointless thoughts aside, Dominic walked over.

Chris lifted his eyes and glanced at the expression on Dominic’s face. “What are you trying to find out?”

Nothing,” Dominic said, even though he felt a little guilty. On the surface, though, he looked sincerely concerned. “Gavin’s been up here a while, and I got worried that blockhead might not know when to leave. If he ended up killing the mood, that won’t be great.”
