Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 244

Mrs. Xander Sr.’s memorial service was a major event for the family, so Chris had Mr. White return to the estate the day before to help prepare.

Early that morning, Chris got into the car and headed back to the family estate. Gavin handed him a tablet.

“Mr. Xander, it’s all on here.”

The files were copies of the surveillance footage collected from the morning market.

Gavin had already reviewed it and spotted Mrs. Young in some of the clips, but he couldn’t be sure he hadn’t missed anything. So he saved everything without deleting a single file. He had only renamed the clips that showed Mrs. Young to make them easier for Chris to go through.

Chris opened one of the videos marked with the time Mrs. Young appeared. The crowded morning market filled

the screen.

Leaning back against the seat, he held the tablet in one hand. With the other, he pulled a cigarette from the hidden compartment, set it between his lips, and lit it. At the same time, the car window lowered and a gust of cold air swept into the cabin.

As the car passed through a tunnel, the flare of the lighter flickered across his sharper, colder features. Then his gaze suddenly paused. He looked at the timestamp on the screen.

He exited the clip, opened another one, skipped ahead to the point after Mrs. Young had appeared in the market, and watched it at double speed. Then he exited again and opened the next video.

By the time he had gone through all the footage, the car was just pulling onto the grounds of the Xander estate.

The car came to a stop.

Gavin got out first and opened the door for him. Chris stepped out of the car. His tailored suit made him look even taller. The morning fog hadn’t fully lifted yet, and the damp cold hit him head–on.

Holding the tablet, Chris said, “Look at this.”

Gavin walked beside him and took it. He had barely glanced at the screen when Chris said in that cool, steady voice of his, “This woman in the hat and mask was following Mrs. Young the entire time.”

At that, Gavin immediately looked more carefully. As Chris tapped the screen with one finger, Gavin finally saw it. Near the fish stall, not far from Mrs. Young, was a woman in a bucket hat and a black face mask.

Gavin had seen her before in the footage the police pulled from that small corner store. Right before Mrs. Young went into the alley, someone had bumped into her, and this same woman was the one who stepped in to help.

“Could she have just been shopping too?” Gavin asked. He opened another clip, but this time his focus was no longer on Mrs. Young. It was on the woman.

Chris said, “Going by the timeline, the last thing Mrs. Young bought on camera was the fish. This woman in the hat had been trailing her from a distance for at least half an hour. In the end, she didn’t buy a single thing.”

But no matter how much they questioned him, they couldn’t get anything useful out of the drunk.

So before he said anything else, the police decided to keep looking for other leads first.

Winter couldn’t understand who would want Mrs. Young dead, let alone in such a brutal way.

She had just gotten out of the car when her phone rang.

It was William.

The situation with his family had finally been resolved. He had just woken up and wanted to take her out for a while to help clear her head, so he was calling to ask if she was up yet.
