Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 225

Chapter 225

By the time Winter had eaten half the bowl, she swallowed and fixed her eyes on Chris.

In a low voice, he said, “He’s alive.”

Winter’s heart lurched. She forced down the urge to flip the table. She knew she wasn’t going to get anything useful out of him like this, so she pulled out her phone and called William again.

Still, no one answered.

Winter got up and left.

Chris stayed seated at the table, watching her walk out of the dining room. After a moment, he quietly set his fork down.

Mrs. Young looked at the table full of food that had barely been touched, then at the two people who had gone their separate ways. For one strange moment, she almost had the illusion that Chris had simply wanted to share a meal with Winter.

But the way things were between them now was just too awful.

Winter couldn’t leave Blackwood Manor, and she still couldn’t get any news about William. No matter how many times she called, he never picked up.

She called Zion instead, but he was still recovering and hadn’t been with William. All he knew was that the Zeller family was in chaos right now. Beyond that, he had heard nothing.

Even by evening, there was still no word from William.

At last, Winter couldn’t take it anymore and ran to Chris’s study looking for him.

He wasn’t there. But from the second–floor window, she spotted him in the courtyard with Skyla.

Why was Skyla here?

It was already getting dark, and the courtyard lights were coming on one by one. The two of them were standing partly under the cover of the trees, so Winter couldn’t see them clearly, and she couldn’t hear what Skyla said. She only heard Chris answer in an indifferent voice.

Whatever you decide.”

A smile appeared on Skyla’s face.

Her caregiver was pushing her wheelchair, and Chris was walking beside her. They were just about to leave.

Winter’s mind was consumed with worry about William. She leaned out the window and shouted, “Chris!”

He stopped.

At the sound of her voice, Skyla looked up toward the second floor window. The moment she heard it, her heart sank. And when she caught sight of Winter’s profile as she turned, her eyes went cold.

Why was Winter back at Blackwood Manor again?

Was Mrs. Xander Sr.’s death still not enough to deepen Chris’s hatred for her?

Chris glanced at how lightly she was dressed, his expression cool. “Go back inside and put on a coat.

If you won’t tell me, then I’ll go find him myself. Let me out.”

Chris’s tone left no room for argument. “Dream on.”

Just then, Skyla spoke. “Chris, I already made a dinner reservation. Come on. I’m hungry.”

Winter was already wound tight with worry over William. Being interrupted only pushed her further.

“Is that seriously your idea of manners? I’m talking to him. Who said you could cut in?”

Then Winter shot a look at the caregiver behind her. Wheel her farther away. Otherwise, I’ll do it myself.”

Skyla’s caregiver still had bruises from when William kicked her the day before. Her whole body still ached, and she was genuinely afraid Winter might actually mean it.
