Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 224

Chapter 224

He let out a muffled grunt when Winter bit his tongue, and the sharp taste of blood instantly spread between them.

She thought that would make him stop.

Instead, he only went further, kissing her until her body went weak and she no longer had the strength to fight him off.

“Stop thinking about leaving Liono City, Winter. You can’t leave me.”

“What am I to you, exactly?” Winter closed her eyes in pain.

“The same as before. Nothing’s changed.”

Chris said it lightly. Then he used his rough thumb to wipe the tears from the corner of her eye, lifted her from the bed, and carried her out of the room.

When they got downstairs, Chris carried her to the car.

The second Winter was set down, she lunged for the door on the other side.

But her hand had barely touched it before Chris caught her and pulled her back.

She fell into his arms. His arm came around her waist, and her back pressed against his chest. She could feel the vibration in him when he spoke.

If you run, who do you think you can turn to? The Davis family is in trouble, and Zac can barely keep his own head above water right now. William? His grandfather’s health is failing, and the Zeller family is a complete mess. Everyone’s fighting over the inheritance. Whether William can come through it in one piece is still anyone’s guess.

Winter went still.

Something had happened to the Zeller family?

William had never said a word to her about any of it.

The Zeller family was even more complicated than the Xanders. In a family that big, a fight over the inheritance was bound to get ugly fast.

“Let me out!” She couldn’t break free, so she sank her teeth into Chris’s arm.

Her overseas posting had been taken from her. He had threatened her parents‘ ashes. William was caught in his own mess, and she could do nothing to help. All of it twisted together until Winter bit down even harder.

Chris didn’t react. He only said coldly, “Drive.”

The car pulled away from the Westbay neighborhood.

Looking at the familiar place in front of her, Winter let out a bitter laugh. “Didn’t you throw me out of the Xander family? Then what exactly is this?”

She had gone to the Xander estate when Mrs. Xander Sr. passed, and while she didn’t know what had happened in between, hearing that Winter was coming back filled her with both relief and unease.

Sure enough, when the car stopped in the courtyard, she saw Chris carrying Winter out by force and hurried outside at once.

“I want to know what’s going on with William.” Winter didn’t touch the food. How could she possibly eat right now?

“I’ll tell you after you eat.”

Chris sat down across from her.

Winter looked at the table full of her favorite dishes, but she had no appetite at all. If anything, she felt sick.

She drank a little soup, then set the spoon down. “I’m done.”

Chris glanced up once. His eyes swept over the untouched food in front of her, then dropped back down.

The silence stretched on.

Watching the two of them, both just as stubborn as ever, Mrs. Young shot Gavin a helpless look. Gavin, though, stayed expressionless and didn’t react at all.

The most anxious person there was Winter. After a few seconds of stalemate, she finally picked up her fork, took a couple of bites, and said, “Can you tell me now?”

Without even looking up, Chris said, “Two more bites.”
