Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 208

William gave her a look that clearly said he wasn’t buying it. “What do you think? You never showed up at the airport, and I couldn’t reach you. If nothing had happened, then something definitely happened.”

When he saw her bundled up from head to toe, he finally relaxed a little. “At least Chris acted like a human being for once and made sure you were dressed warm.”

Winter thought about how inhuman Chris had been these past two days, then quickly pushed the thought aside.

William asked what had happened that day. She gave him a short version in just a few sentences, and he automatically skipped over Chris’s part in it.

A man who was impossible to figure out and liked to hurt people in quiet, subtle ways wasn’t worth dwelling on.

“Zac got hurt saving you. Did you thank him?”

Winter nodded.

William clicked his tongue, already getting a headache. “That is a huge favor. How are we supposed to repay something like that?”

He had always thought well of Zac. Out of all the rich boys in their circle, Zac had the best reputation.

Of course, William could also tell Zac liked Winter. The Davis family didn’t need anything money could buy. The only person who could repay that kind of emotional debt was Winter herself,

“She doesn’t need to repay me.

A gentle but weak voice came from behind them.

William and Winter turned around. Zac was being helped to the doorway by two bodyguards. He had a military coat draped over his shoulders, and his face was pale.

William instinctively glanced at his chest and frowned.

Zac’s colorless lips moved slightly. “This was my father’s fault. Getting shot was just me paying for his mistake. It had nothing to do with Winnie. I was the one who failed to protect her.

His eyes stayed fixed on Winter.

Winter felt terrible.

Zac really had been hurt trying to save her. She was grateful, and she was deeply moved.

But Eugene’s original plan had been to dump her at the border, knowing full well she had offended Fabian. He had thrown her straight into a wolf’s den.

At that moment, a tall figure stepped into the cabin, and the door slid shut behind him.

William frowned when he saw Chris board the helicopter. “What are you doing here?”

Chris set a sniper rifle aside, sat down with his legs bent. His face gave nothing away as he glanced at Winter, who was quietly sipping hot water and pretending not to see him.

“If you don’t want this helicopter blown out of the sky, keep your mouth shut.”

Fabian was never a simple man to deal with.

Sure enough, the helicopter had barely cleared the island when a missile came flying in from out of nowhere.

But before it could get close, one of the armed helicopters escorting the white aircraft blew it apart in midair.

The blast was deafening. Winter had just started to feel the sharp pressure in her ears when, in the next second, a warm, dry hand covered her ear and pulled her face against a broad chest.

Chris held her in his arms and flicked a calm glance at William, whose reaction had been almost as fast as his. But there was a distinct chill in William’s eyes.
