Chapter 188
But before she could look away, something else caught her eye.
A Bentley with an unmistakably flashy plate was pulling into the port.
Winter’s body stiffened slightly, and she quickly looked away.
Once she was inside the cruise ship, the heat chased off the cold. Winter let out a breath, but her heart was still pounding hard.
Outside, the wind at the port was brutal.
The moment Zac saw Chris step out of one car and Dominic out of another, he walked straight over without a second thought. It was almost instinct at this point.
“Dominic,” Zac said. Then he gave Chris a small nod.
Dominic looked at the two men standing there in silence and immediately felt uncomfortable. If he had known it was going to be this awkward, he never would have come.
But standing there in silence felt even worse, so he cleared his throat and said, “I was surprised when I saw the news that you were going back to the company. Why did you suddenly leave the hospital?”
The second he said it, he regretted it.
He had only wanted to say something casual and break the tension. Instead, he had blurted out the worst possible question.
Now all he could do was hope Zac had enough sense not to openly talk about going after Chris’s woman right in front of him.
Dominic could already tell Zac was going back to the company because of Winter.
But Zac looked straight at Chris and said calmly, “I’m going to pursue Winnie.”
A cold laugh slipped from Chris’s lips. “Wasn’t standing outside her building every night and playing her silent guardian enough for you?”
Zac only paused for a moment. He wasn’t surprised Chris knew he had been waiting outside Winter’s building every night.
That night, when Winter was attacked outside her apartment complex, he really had only gone there to
check on her.
But after that, he could not stop thinking about what might have happened. Since then, he had been staying outside her building every night and arranging extra security.
Of course Zion knew.
Winter was the only one who didn’t.

“People get greedy,” Zac said. “At first, I thought it was enough just to protect her. But it isn’t anymore. Especially when…” He met Chris’s cold stare head-on. “There’s too much between you and her now. She’s never going to love you again.”
Those words hit Dominic like a punch to the chest
“Winnie?”
Zac pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was dark, with only a sweep of light from a distant lighthouse flashing in through the window.
He was just about to turn on the light when a dark figure moved by the doorway. Something hard slammed into the back of his head.
Then everything went black.
