Chapter 187
She let out a quiet sigh. “I don’t have a home here anymore.”
After she said it, some of the tension seemed to leave her body. But to anyone looking at her, her eyes were faintly red, and her lips trembled slightly when she sighed.
She looked like a small abandoned animal with nowhere left to go.
Roy looked at her in silence. Turbulent emotion churned beneath his dark brown eyes. The hand hanging at his side clenched hard, and the exposed tips of his fingers moved across the screen.
“Maybe a fresh start somewhere else would be a good thing. Have you decided where?”
Winter had called Jimmy just yesterday. The internal review results should be out within a week at the
latest.
According to him, it was basically a done deal.
“The overseas correspondent station in Eveland.”
His pupils contracted sharply for a split second, then returned to normal.
Roy typed, “That country is at war. It’s dangerous.”
Winter’s eyes filled with steady determination. “That’s exactly why I chose it. Because I want to become a war correspondent.”
After saying that, she gave his arm a light, open smile. “So you really need to teach me well.”
Roy lowered his eyes to her smiling face. Something dark and unreadable flickered in his gaze, and his throat bobbed once.
He typed a few words.
“Then you really do need to learn.”
“You have to keep this secret for me,” Winter said. “Don’t tell Zion. At least not until the result is official.”
Roy’s fingers moved over the screen again.
“I won’t tell anyone.”
The holiday season was almost here, and Winter had one last interview assignment before the break.
It was the inaugural voyage of the Davis family’s new cruise ship.
At the same time, it would also be Zac’s first public appearance since officially joining Davis Corporation. Over the past few days, Roy had trained her so hard that she ended up flat on the floor several times a
He adjusted it for her, his expression gentle despite the bitter cold. “You’ve always been forgetful. It’s freezing out here, and you still managed to leave without a scarf.”
Winter was just about to say something when Zac’s father, Eugene Davis, called him over.
Zac gave her shoulder a light squeeze. “I’ll come find you later.”
“You should go ahead. Oh, and your scarf.” Winter smiled, took it off, and handed it back to him. “I’m fine.”
Zac looked at her open, unguarded expression. It wasn’t that she was oblivious to his feelings. She was just kind, and smart enough to pretend she didn’t notice.
He tightened his grip on the scarf, but he didn’t push it.
Winter boarded the cruise ship with her coworkers, with Zion following a short distance behind.
She had assumed there would be no way to bring Zion along to a press event on a cruise ship. But as it turned out, Zac had already arranged an invitation for him too, so he could come aboard and keep her safe.
At the turn of the stairs, she spotted Zac standing with Eugene. She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Eugene didn’t look pleased.
