Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 173

Chapter 173

Before Steve could say another word, Winter suddenly raised her voice. Her tone was sharper and colder than it had ever been.

“I don’t want to hear it.”

She knew exactly what Steve was implying.

But she didn’t want to hear any of it from someone else.

She was going to find Chris herself and get the truth from him face-to-face.

Her fingertips tapped the screen several times before she finally managed to end the call.

“What happened, Ms. Scott?”

Only then did Zion notice how pale her face had turned. How did answering one phone call leave her like this? What exactly had Steve said to her?

Winter took a step, but it was as if all the strength had suddenly drained out of her body. Her knees went weak.

Luckily, Zion reacted fast and caught her tightly by the arm, only to realize that her whole body was trembling.

At the Xander estate, Mr. White stepped out of the room and quietly closed the door behind him. Then he bent down and patted General on the head as the dog came trotting over, his tail wagging.

Outside, the sky was growing dark, and the lights inside were already on. A faint ribbon of smoke drifted up from the scented candle on the table.

Lately, Mrs. Xander Sr. had been feeling weaker and weaker. Even with the heat on in the room, she still had to keep a heating pad in her arms just to feel warm.

Her earlier hospital checkup had shown nothing unusual, and the family doctor had come by several times too. In the end, they all said the same thing. She was simply getting older.

“I thought you didn’t have feelings for Winnie,” she said, shooting a sidelong glance at Chris, who stood silently by the window with his back to her. “You were awfully quick to go public today.”

“Mr. White said you weren’t feeling well.”

Chris didn’t turn around. His tone was flat, making it clear he had come back to check on her, not to talk about anything else.

Chris had lost his parents when he was seven, and Mrs. Xander Sr. had raised him herself until he enlisted at eighteen.

In many ways, she knew him better than almost anyone else in the world.

“What happened?”

Chris by the window slowly turned around. The back of his hand brushed the bowl of oatmeal on the table. He picked it up, walked to the bed, and sat down.

He scooped up a small spoonful and held it out to Mrs. Xander Sr.

It was the same answer as before. Mrs. Xander Sr. had already heard him say it twice.

But this time, it felt different.

She couldn’t explain exactly what was different, only that it was.

“It’s fine if you won’t tell me. But I can see you’re not happy, and refusing to divorce her isn’t making

Winnie happy either. By dragging this out, are you torturing yourself or her?”
