Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 104

Chapter 104

Chris’s gaze was cold and unreadable. “Sell it to you? You’re not even a collector. What do you want it

for?”

People said that when Chris looked at you like that, it felt like he could see straight through you.

But the man in front of him was Zac Davis. Zac had grown up with him. He came from a powerful family and carried himself with a calm confidence you rarely saw. He met Chris’s stare without flinching.

“To give to someone,” Zac said. Snow had settled on his shoulders.

For Zac to stand out in the snow just to ask for one item, it meant it mattered.

Chris let out a short laugh. His fingers tightened around his cane. “Not for sale.”

Zac frowned. “You’re not going to use it.”

“I don’t care,” Chris said.

Zac stepped in and caught his arm, stopping him from getting into the car. His voice stayed steady, but it went firmer. “I have never asked you for anything. This brooch matters to me.”

“And you’ve never asked because you know where the line is,” Chris said. The air around him seemed to drop a few degrees. “So what do you think you’re doing right now?”

Zac didn’t back down from that chilling glare. “If I’m asking, you know it’s because this is very important to me.”

“Zac Davis!”

Chris grabbed him by the collar and cut him off. His voice was low, controlled, and edged with bitter sarcasm. “So she calls you ‘Zac‘ in that sweet voice and you just lose your mind, is that it?”

Winter’s voice flashed through his head, soft and smiling, saying “Zac” again and again until it grated on his nerves.

The moment Chris moved, Gavin dipped the umbrella to block the line of sight from the guests nearby.

To anyone watching, it would have looked like two close friends having a private argument.

No one would guess Chris was actually putting hands on his friend.

Zac’s expression flickered.

So Chris already knew who the brooch was meant for.

Zac didn’t deny it. He didn’t even pull Chris’s hand off his collar. He replied calmly, “You two are getting divorced.”

“Who told you I’m divorcing her?” Chris’s eyes went ice–cold.

Winter had already changed out of her gown and back into regular clothes.

She held the steering wheel and stared at the Bentley.

This was the road Chris always took back to Blackwood Manor.

She had gone to the charity auction for one reason. She needed to corner Chris and finish the interview. She wasn’t about to back off now over a brooch.

Blocking him here was her best chance to catch him off guard. If she let this slip, it would be hard to pin him down again.
