Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1596

"Celine is coming out."

At those words, all attention snapped toward the doors.

The doctors wheeled Celine out. She was buried under thick blankets and wearing an oxygen mask.

Though she was conscious and her eyes were open, she was so pale and fragile she looked as if she might shatter at any moment.

"Celine..."

Warren leaned down, gently pulling her into his embrace. He kissed her cheek, his heart breaking as his voice trembled. "I'm so sorry, Celine. I am so, so sorry."

As he spoke, tears rolled down his face, the guilt threatening to consume him whole.

The rest of the family wisely hung back, giving them space.

Celine barely had any strength left. She could only manage a weak flutter of her fingers against his arm.

She forced a smile, her voice barely a whisper. "Is the baby cute?"

"I didn't look."

Warren held her hand tightly, looking just as terrible as she did.

Every ounce of his attention was on his wife.

Why would he care about the little brat who almost cost him his world?

"What?"

Celine frowned heavily at his answer.

Seeing her displeasure, Warren pursed his lips and murmured, "He's healthy. A little plump."

Plump?

Thinking back to the ultrasound photos, the doctor had mentioned he was wonderfully round, like a little bowling ball.

"I want to see him," Celine said, a faint smile touching her lips, her voice utterly devoid of energy.

"They took him to be fed." Warren gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, his tone soft and coaxing. "Let's get you to your room. You can see him when you've rested a bit."

"But I just want to..." Celine shook her head, desperate to see her baby.

Seeing those pleading eyes, Warren couldn't bear to say no.

The rest of the family blinked, feeling just as empathetic.

The others nervously laughed it off and quickly scuffled down the hall, eventually breaking into a light jog.

Their sister looked completely exhausted and ready to snap like a firecracker.

No one wanted to poke the bear.

Celine needed her rest.

The family offered brief words of comfort before filtering out of the room.

Juniper sat on a chair outside the door, waiting in complete silence for five hours.

"Ms. Payne, everything is completely stable now." The doctor finished the final checks on Celine and offered a reassuring smile. "Please go get some rest. We'll take it from here."

"Thank you for your hard work."

Only after confirming that Celine was officially out of the woods did Juniper finally stand up, the deep exhaustion evident in her eyes.

Rushing to catch a flight, performing a grueling surgery, and then waiting hours outside the room to ensure the danger had passed.
