Melvin stood in the doorway, his smile collapsing as he shot Juniper a glare full of resentment. "Should I just leave then?"

"Could you run while you do it?"

Juniper raised an eyebrow, flashing him a lazy, uncaring smirk. "Come on in, sister-in-law."

"Juniper."

Being teased like that by Juniper made Janet's face flush completely red, and she shyly grabbed the hem of her own shirt.

"Shanley, you're not even going to try and ask me to stay?" Melvin stood by the door, staring gloomily at Shanley.

"Me?"

Shanley was lounging in gray loungewear, looking entirely relaxed and casual. "I don't have a say in anything around here, Melvin."

Melvin's eyes widened in disbelief. It took him a long moment to force out a few words: "No wonder you managed to bag Juniper. You absolute snake."

"I'll take that as a compliment." Shanley arched a dark eyebrow, his deep eyes turning toward Juniper as he blinked innocently. "Aren't I so well-behaved?"

"Damn!"

Melvin almost jumped in exasperation, throwing a thumbs-up in Shanley's direction. "You really are an old fox. Unbelievable."

"Fine. Since my girlfriend isn't leaving, I'm not leaving either."

Without waiting for an invitation, Melvin made himself right at home and plopped down onto the sofa.

"Tsk."

Juniper shot him an indifferent look before turning her attention back to Janet. "So, what did Saskia say? Did she agree to let you guys be together?"

"Yeah."

Janet nodded, her face still flushed. "My mom agreed."

"Huh?"

Juniper glanced over at Melvin, who was happily munching on some fruit. She pursed her lips, looking thoroughly disappointed. "Wait, she just agreed? Just like that?"

Janet looked up, blinking. "Juniper, why are you so surprised?"

"I thought for sure my aunt was going to beat him to a pulp." Juniper sat cross-legged on the couch, shrugging in disappointment. "I really wanted to see my brother get a beatdown. Should I text her and ask if we can rerun the whole thing?"

Janet's mouth dropped open in shock. "Ah?"
