Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1587

Janet's face turned beet red. Did that count as their first kiss?

"Alright."

Seeing her so flustered, Melvin smoothed her hair, speaking softly, "Time's up. One last hug."

If Saskia came back suddenly and caught them, it would be an absolute disaster.

"You need to go. My mom is going to be back any second."

Janet shook her head, gently pushing Melvin toward the elevator. "See you tomorrow."

They had planned to go on a trip to the suburbs tomorrow.

"Okay."

Having gotten what he wanted, Melvin was incredibly easy to manage. Just as he reached for the elevator button...

The door to Janet's apartment suddenly swung open, and Saskia appeared right in front of them.

Saskia was wearing a shawl, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared at the two of them with an icy expression.

"Mom."

Janet practically leaped out of Melvin's arms. The smile vanished from her face instantly, and her entire body tensed with panic. "I thought you were out for your walk?"

She still hadn't figured out how to break the news to her mother.

"I was." Saskia replied in a low voice. "The weather was bad today, so I stayed in."

She had heard noises outside and had been standing by the door for nearly ten minutes.

She watched them hugging and kissing, practically counting the seconds.

Melvin hadn't anticipated their relationship being exposed in a scenario quite like this.

Terrified that she would blame Janet, he immediately pulled her behind him, his expression turning deadly serious. "I was the one who pursued Janet. Please don't blame her."

"If you're angry and need to take it out on someone, aim it all at me."

"Mom, we..."

This was the first time Janet had ever hidden something like this from her mother, and she was entirely at a loss.

All she wanted was to calm her mom down, especially considering her fragile health.

"Come inside. Let's talk."

Saskia gave them both a long, piercing look before pushing the door fully open and turning to walk inside.

"Melvin..." Janet turned back to look at the man.

Inside the living room.

Saskia sat on the sofa. Her usually pale complexion looked even more bloodless now.

She looked at her daughter, whose head was bowed low, and then at the tall, imposing man standing beside her.

She could rack her brain for a century and still never fathom how these two had ended up together.

"Tell me, who initiated this?" Saskia leaned against the armrest, propping her head up to keep herself steady. "When did this start?"

"If I hadn't caught you today, how long were you planning to hide this from me?"

"Mom, please don't get upset." Janet was so frightened her eyes welled up with tears.

"It's my fault."

Melvin gently pulled Janet to the side, then reached over and grabbed the fruit knife sitting on the table.

"W-What are you doing?"

Saskia leaped up in sheer terror, stumbling back several steps, her heart pounding frantically against her ribs.

Was he going to murder the mother and kidnap the daughter?!
