Looking at the toxic wasteland of a comments section, Janet felt a suffocating tightness in her chest.
Some comments claimed she had shamelessly stalked Kian.
Others insisted Kian never actually liked her but was just too polite to reject her publicly out of fear of breaking her fragile heart, so he only turned her down in private.
But supposedly, Janet refused to give up and used every dirty trick in the book to seduce him.
There were even rumors claiming she had gotten pregnant by a wealthy businessman, tried to use the baby to force him into marriage, and was subsequently beaten into a miscarriage by his wife.
Eventually, they even dragged her mother to the chopping block.
[Janet is from a single-parent home, right? They say her dad died early. Though whether he's actually dead or just bailed is hard to say.]
There were even more vile and unspeakable comments.
Janet's head buzzed. Her eyes blurred, unable to focus on the words anymore.
“Janet, I believe you would never do something like this.”
The classmate took the phone back and held Janet's hand to comfort her. “Did you offend someone recently?”
Janet slowly raised her eyes. Only one person's silhouette materialized in her mind.
Kian.
Even though the photo's background was blurred, she could tell it was taken at the resort.
Of everyone present, who would sneak a picture and then maliciously post it online with a fabricated story?
Aside from Kian.
She couldn't think of anyone else.
It was absolutely repulsive.
“Janet, are you okay?” Seeing her pallid face, her classmate asked with concern, “If you're not feeling well, we can skip class today.”
“No need.”
Janet pulled out her textbook, sat straight, and parted her pale lips. “I haven't done anything wrong, so why should I hide?”
“Right.”
The classmate rubbed her nose, carefully probing further. “Janet, who is the guy in the picture? Is he your boyfriend?”
Janet's body went rigid. Pale-faced, she shook her head.
Brother figure?
No.
Boyfriend?
The others nodded in agreement, glaring viciously at Janet. “Please leave. Don't dirty our classroom floor.”
“I have never pursued Kian, nor have I ever hooked up with any wealthy businessman.” Janet stood at the door, her slender frame trembling slightly as she fought to maintain her composure. “Everything on the forum is pure slander and defamation.”
“Hmph.” The crowd clearly didn't buy her explanation. “If it's slander, then tell us—who is the guy?”
The internet was powerful; someone would dig up the truth eventually.
Janet choked on her words. If she dropped Melvin's name, how would people talk about him?
He was still actively pursuing a girl; dragging him into this mess would be terrible for him.
Even though aside from that one innocent “lift” so she could see the sunrise, absolutely nothing was going on between them.
Janet bit her lip, staying silent.
“Heh.”
The classmates let out another collective sneer, their expressions clearly saying: *See? She can't even name him.*
“When Kian gets back, I will confront him face to face.” Janet's eyes were rimmed with red, her voice carrying a slight tremor. “I, Janet Wilcox, will not take the fall for things I never did.”
“Fine.”
The female classmate scoffed, completely unfazed. “I can't wait to see how Kian exposes your true colors.”
