Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1558

By the lake.

Melvin stood with his hands in his pockets and asked point-blank, "Not feeling well?"

"Huh?"

Janet bit her lip. Even though it was a perfectly normal biological function and nothing to be ashamed of, discussing it with a man still felt awkward.

She lowered her head and answered quietly, "No, it's already over."

It was only bad the first two days anyway.

She had no idea where Kian had heard about it, acting like a total creep bringing her cramp remedies.

"Okay."

Melvin had never really discussed this kind of thing before either. He shifted slightly, looking a bit awkward. "You and Kian seem pretty close."

The private investigator was still looking into the kid, and while there were no official results yet, the initial feedback...

wasn't great.

"Who told you that?" Janet bit her lip, murmuring her reply.

Had Kian been running his mouth and feeding Melvin lies?!

Was she admitting it or denying it?

To Melvin, she looked exactly like a young girl whose secret crush had just been exposed, acting guilty.

"No one told me, I just see you guys together a lot."

Melvin offered a faint smile, trying to keep things light. "Don't be so tense. You're an adult, you're allowed to date."

"Just make sure you learn a thing or two from Juniper. Keep your eyes open when picking a guy."

"That old fox might be older, but he loves her down to his bones. He'd literally die for her."

Melvin purposely emphasized the word "older."

"I..."

Janet pressed her lips together, lifted her chin, and gathered the courage to ask, "What about you, Mr. Steele? Do you have a girlfriend or a girl you like?"

"Me?"

Surprised that she was turning the question on him, Melvin thought for a moment. His gaze fell onto her face as he slowly replied, "No girlfriend at the moment. But there is a girl I like."

He was still trying to win her over.

She didn't seem to have a clue, and he honestly wasn't sure if he could actually catch her.

He had a girl he liked?

Makes sense.

A guy as incredible as Melvin would obviously be popular with women.

She didn't know what was wrong with her.

Just because she found out Melvin liked someone else?

Why was she so sad? Shouldn't she be happy for him?

Janet tried to adjust her mindset, but ultimately failed.

She couldn't bring herself to be happy.

Melvin walked Janet to the entrance.

The moment she turned around, he suddenly called out, "Janet."

"Yeah?"

Janet looked back at him in confusion.

"How much do you actually like Kian?" Melvin frowned, his voice dropping low. "What do you even see in him? He's a sneaky, smooth-talking social climber. Aside from being a warm body, he has zero redeeming qualities."

Hearing Melvin brutally tear Kian to shreds, Janet's mouth fell open slightly.

Honestly, Melvin's assessment was entirely accurate. Even she couldn't have dragged him that flawlessly.

Janet's lips parted, and she said softly, "I don't like him."
