Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1556

The doors opened.

A group of businessmen and executives of varying ages and styles stepped out.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, they slowly walked toward the entrance.

The head of the law department accompanied them with a welcoming smile.

The men were chatting about something, letting out hearty "rich guy" laughs.

A classmate whispered, "Even rich people's laughter hits different. It's so hearty."

"While us broke folks just giggle nervously."

"Whoa, there's a real estate mogul in that group. Do you think he's the one sponsoring us?"

The students huddled together, whispering excitedly.

Janet stayed quiet. Her eyes remained glued to the group, scanning them once, twice, three times...

She scrutinized every single face but couldn't find the one person she wanted to see.

Melvin wasn't there.

Makes sense. He probably hated these kinds of corporate functions.

Sigh.

Janet couldn't exactly put her finger on what she was feeling, just a dull ache in her chest that drained her energy.

"Professor Zuniga, should we head in now?" Kian, having made sure his face was seen by the "executives," tried to usher everyone inside.

"Hold on, we're still waiting for a VIP."

Just as Professor Zuniga spoke, the roaring engine of a sports car echoed in the distance.

A white sports car executed a flawless, aggressive drift before braking perfectly along the curb.

Immediately after, Melvin stepped out, coming into full view.

He was wearing a black t-shirt and black cargo pants, his hair styled casually. He looked sharp, clean, and effortlessly put together.

Paired with that ridiculously handsome face, his sheer attractiveness was off the charts.

"Whoa—"

The girls from both classes stared, wide-eyed, unable to stop themselves from gasping out loud.

"He's so gorgeous. No wonder, considering he's the Goddess and Jimmie's brother."

"With those looks and that body, I'd just walk up and say, 'Hi, husband!'"

He definitely couldn't afford to offend him.

Janet: ?

So Melvin was the one who organized this whole trip?

"Don't mention it." Melvin offered a faint smile, his peripheral vision scanning the crowd until it landed squarely on a certain girl's face.

"Everyone can head inside now. The most important thing is that you all have a good time."

"Yes, absolutely."

Professor Zuniga beamed, and Kian immediately lunged forward, reaching for Melvin's bags. "Mr. Steele, let me get your luggage for you."

"Very enthusiastic of you, Kian." Melvin jerked his chin toward the crowd. "But I think the young ladies here could use your help a lot more than I do."

"Go help someone else." Having delivered the rejection, Melvin bypassed Kian's outstretched hands and walked straight ahead.

Kian stood frozen on the spot, utterly humiliated.

As Melvin walked past Janet, he paused just long enough to arch an eyebrow at her.

In a voice meant only for her, he murmured, "Surprised? Didn't see that coming?"
