Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1554

"Right, of course."

Saskia cast a brief look at Melvin, offering an awkward but polite smile.

"Let's eat, everyone."

Having finished peeling the shrimp, Shanley elegantly wiped his hands and went back to cooking Juniper's favorite cuts of meat in the broth.

When a bite was too spicy, he poured her water.

He waited on her hand and foot the entire meal, more attentively than one would care for a toddler.

It was so sweet.

Janet couldn't help but marvel. If her cousin ever had a baby, Shanley would undoubtedly be the most devoted father.

Melvin had wanted to follow suit, but with Saskia sitting right there, occasionally stealing glances at him, he couldn't quite manage it.

He never got the chance to flex his charm, forced to awkwardly sit through the rest of the dinner.

Halfway through, Saskia went home to grab some fruit.

Janet leaned over the table, organizing a list of supplies and attendees for the School of Law field trip happening next Tuesday.

"Going on a trip?"

Melvin placed a bowl of dessert near her hand, glancing at the paper. "When is it?"

Janet replied, "Tuesday."

Two freshman classes were going, supposedly to relax and network.

Hiking in the woods—what was there to network about?

She much preferred staying in the library reading.

Kian was leading the group since he had organized similar events before.

The professors were worried about managing everything, so they gave him special permission to attend.

Kian is going?

Melvin gave a slow, deliberate nod. "Alright then. Have fun."

Monday.

The moment Janet walked into the classroom, her desk-mate grabbed her arm and shook it excitedly.

"Janet, we aren't going to that barren mountain for the trip anymore!"

"Huh?"

Janet was confused. "Then where are we going?"

"We're going to Windsor Riverside Retreat!" Her desk-mate was practically vibrating with joy. "You know the law school is hosting that legal training seminar right now, right? A lot of the people attending are CEOs or rich heirs."

"Is it?"

Janet touched her own cheeks, suddenly flustered. "I probably just walked too fast getting here. Adrenaline."

"If you say so," her desk-mate said, half-convinced. "Anyway, I gotta go take care of some stuff, then I need to head back to the dorm and pick out a cute dress."

"Got it."

Janet patted her shoulder, adding earnestly, "Dress to impress."

After her friend left.

Janet slumped over her desk like a wilted flower, resting her chin in her hands.

What was wrong with her?

Why couldn't she get Melvin out of her head?

After class.

Kian found Janet so they could hand off some student paperwork.

"Could you please stop bringing me breakfast from now on?" Janet said bluntly. "I eat at home every morning. You doing this is not only wasteful, but it's giving people the wrong idea."

"I just didn't want you going hungry." Kian held the paperwork, smiling warmly at her. "Did you not like the food? I can buy you something else next time."
