Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1552

Janet's hands instinctively gripped Melvin's arms, her knees half-bent, cheeks burning hot.

Stepping out of the speeding car so suddenly, her legs just hadn't adjusted yet.

It felt entirely surreal.

"Can you stand?" Melvin held onto her slender frame.

"I can."

Janet nodded with full confidence and pushed Melvin's hands away.

Her feet felt like they were sinking into cotton, stumbling left and right, looking as if she could topple over at any second.

Melvin shook his head in amusement, stepped forward, and simply scooped Janet up into his arms.

Startled, Janet immediately threw her arms around Melvin's neck to brace herself.

From this angle, she had a perfect view of his profile—his sharp Adam's apple and his beautifully defined jawline.

Looking slightly higher, he had a straight nose, striking double eyelids, and upon closer inspection, a tiny, distinct beauty mark near the corner of his eye.

Janet bit her lip, feeling her heart racing even faster than it had on the track.

They weren't even in the race car anymore, so why was she still losing control?

Janet pressed a hand to her chest, furrowing her brow.

Stop beating so fast.

"What's wrong, feeling sick?" Melvin looked down, his voice softening. "Did I drive too fast?"

"N-No." Janet shook her head, her face flushed red. Once they were back in the office, she immediately hopped down and quietly retreated to the corner of the sofa. "You're a really good driver, Mr. Steele."

"My driving..." Melvin raised an eyebrow, offering a lazy, carefree smile. "Is pretty top-tier, yeah."

Janet forced a polite smile. She had given him a genuine compliment, what was he laughing at?

"Janet..." Melvin grabbed a bottle of water, twisted the cap off, and handed it to her, his gaze dropping to her face. "Did you have fun?"

With the racing?

"It was really fun," Janet answered.

"Whatever you do, just make sure you stay happy." Melvin crouched down in front of her, looking up into her eyes. "Especially when you're looking at people. Keep your eyes open, don't let yourself get blinded."

"In the bedroom."

Dana covered her mouth and laughed, gesturing toward the master suite, her laugh lines crinkling with amusement. "Juniper wanted an iced latte, but Shanley took it upon himself to order her a hot one. She got mad and is giving him the silent treatment, so he's in there coaxing her right now."

"Oh, I see." Janet listened with great interest, giggling quietly. "My cousin has him completely wrapped around her finger."

"Doesn't she just."

Dana was enjoying the gossip and happily added, "Mr. Schwartz has absolutely zero authority in this house, hehe."

"I'll go get the veggies ready, just make yourself at home, Janet."

"Let me help you, Dana." Saskia set her things down and followed her into the kitchen.

Inside the bedroom.

Shanley had been coaxing her for quite a while, offering apologies and reflecting on his mistakes before he finally got the girl to calm down.

"I said I was sorry, didn't I, my little sovereign?"

Shanley cupped Juniper's sulky face and kissed her tenderly. "Dana made your favorite fondue, and she whipped up that passion fruit lemonade you like—sweet, tart, and she even added crushed ice."
