Jasper looked closely at her, noting the exhaustion lingering around her eyes. "You didn't sleep well?"

Hester paused, lightly touching her cheek. "Are the dark circles that bad?"

"No, not at all," Jasper smiled warmly. "You just look a little more drained than usual."

Hester let out a quiet sigh. "I really didn't. I kept tossing and turning. Half awake, half asleep all night."

Jasper was quiet for a moment. "You're worried about Caden, aren't you?"

Hester pressed her lips together, offering no denial.

Seeing right through her, Jasper spoke softly. "I was actually thinking I should head to the hospital today and check on him myself."

Hester looked up in surprise.

Meeting her gaze, Jasper's eyes were gentle. "Do you want to go together?"

Hester hesitated, weighing her options, but finally nodded. "Let's go. Gigi calls me her godmother now, and he's her age. It's only right that I go check on him."

"We'll head out right after breakfast."

"Okay."

Hospitals were no place for young children, so they left Gigi at the inn with Jovie and Chiara. The two of them took Jovie's car and drove toward the Women & Children's Hospital.

An hour later, they arrived on Caden's floor.

The atmosphere inside the private suite was suffocating.

Hester stood in the doorway, Jasper right beside her.

Seeing them arrive together, the already dark aura around Julian turned instantly hostile.

"Mr. Kane and I came to check on Caden," Hester said smoothly, stepping into the room.

Jasper followed her in, setting a basket of high-end fruit and a pack of premium children's milk on the side table. He turned to Julian, his tone professional and polite. "Caden was with us on the boat yesterday. Since he fell ill so suddenly, I felt a degree of responsibility. Ms. Carrington and I discussed it this morning and agreed we should pay him a visit."

Julian let out a dark, mocking laugh, ignoring Jasper entirely. His lethal gaze locked onto Hester.

Hester met his stare, her face completely unbothered.

Julian's lips curled into a vicious sneer. "In what capacity are you visiting my son, Hester? As his godmother? Or as Jasper Kane's lover?"
