Sirens wailed as an ambulance tore out of the production camp, speeding toward the nearest hospital.
A suffocating silence hung over the ruined set.
Parked quietly on the shoulder of the highway, the black Maybach idled.
From the backseat, Corbin Hale watched the flashing lights of the ambulance disappear into the distance.
"Run a full background check on Seraphina Simpson," his low, magnetic voice filled the cabin.
"Right away, sir." Ian turned in his seat, looking at his boss's sharp profile. "Where to now?"
"Back to the inn."
Ian hesitated. "That woman, Gael Montgomery... she clearly knows who the real Clio is. Should I intercept her and ask?"
Corbin shifted his gaze from the window to his assistant, a faint smirk touching his lips. "Think about it. Clio could have shown up herself to deliver the final blow. Instead, she used an proxy. Why do you think that is?"
Ian frowned. "She values her privacy?"
"That's part of it," Corbin agreed smoothly. "But it also means she's waiting for the perfect moment to make her official return."
"You think another agency already signed her?"
"Someone with Gael Montgomery acting as their muscle isn't an amateur. She's incredibly well-connected." Corbin looked back out the window, his smile deepening into something dangerous and intrigued. "I have to admit, she has my full attention now."
"Should I put a tail on Gael?"
"No. She's a professional. If you tail her, she'll notice, and it'll spook Clio. That defeats the purpose," Corbin said lazily. "I've waited five years to find her. A little longer won't hurt."
"Understood," Ian nodded. "And what about the investment capital for the show?"
The predatory amusement vanished from Corbin's face, replaced by absolute corporate ruthlessness.
"Since Seraphina isn't Clio, pull the funding. Business is business."
