Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 258

Julian stared at Seraphina, his eyes dark and unfathomable.

Normally, he would have offered her a quiet word of reassurance. But tonight, since the moment they rushed Caden to the ER, Julian hadn't offered her a single drop of comfort, regardless of how hard she cried or blamed herself.

Seraphina kept her head bowed, her sobs echoing in the quiet hallway. His stony silence was terrifying her.

*Did he suspect her?*

Her mind raced. Suddenly, her eyes fluttered, and she let her body go completely limp, collapsing toward the floor.

"Seraphina!"

Julian caught her by the arms before she could hit the tile. She kept her eyes shut tight, offering zero response as he called her name.

With a hard scowl, he scooped her up and strode down the hall.

"Leon!"

Leon appeared instantly from the stairwell.

"Take her to the ER," Julian ordered.

Leon froze, looking at the unconscious woman in his boss's arms. "Y-you want me to carry her?"

"Do you see anyone else?" Julian snapped. "I'm staying with my son."

"Understood, sir."

Leon quickly took Seraphina from him and hurried toward the emergency department.

A passing nurse saw him running. "Do you need the ER?"

"Yes."

The nurse walked briskly beside him, pulling out her radio. "I'll page the attending. Why did she faint? Any underlying conditions?"

Leon didn't miss a beat. "She has a history of depression."

Julian watched them disappear around the corner. He stood in the empty hallway for a long moment before turning back to Caden's room.

...

Heart aching, Julian authorized it.

Only after the medication kicked in did Caden finally settle into a quiet sleep.

By then, dawn was breaking.

Julian stepped out into the hall and called Neil again, demanding that Fiona Fuller get there as fast as humanly possible.

When Fiona heard what happened to Caden, she didn't hesitate. She immediately requisitioned her family's private jet and was airborne within the hour. She would land in Coralton City by noon.

...

Around 8:00 AM.

Hester walked out of her room just as Jasper was stepping into the hallway, carrying Gigi.

"Good morning, Godmommy!" Gigi cheered, waving her chubby little hand.

"Good morning, sweetheart." Hester smiled, walking over to gently stroke the little girl's hair.
