Sean delivered a vicious slap to Hazel's face, the sheer force sending her crashing to the side. Her ears rang violently, and her vision momentarily went dark.
Hazel collapsed on the floor, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth. A burning pain spread from her cheek to her ear.
She pushed herself up, wiping the corner of her mouth. Staring at the crimson smeared across her fingertips, she let out a cold scoff.
"Stop your damn lying!"
Sean panted heavily, his bloodshot eyes practically bulging from his skull as he glared down at her. "Even if Evelyn is a bitch, I know her inside out. We've been together for years. Who the hell do you think you are to drive a wedge between us? Once I'm done with you, she's coming back with me."
Hazel forced a smile, though it pulled at her fresh wound, making her wince. She looked up at him, a mocking glint in her eyes.
"It's exactly because you've been married for so long and you've never stopped beating her that she wants to use you. She's killing three birds with one stone. She gets rid of me, she gets rid of you, and she gets to be with Julian. Think about it. If you hate me enough to kill me, I can't stop you."
Sean completely ignored her logic. He bent down, hoisted Hazel off the floor, and dragged her to the bed, tossing her roughly onto the mattress.
Hazel's head cracked against the headboard, earning a pained gasp. Sean leaned over, planting his hands on either side of her, casting a dark shadow over her frame. His voice turned predatory.
"Save your strength. You're going to need it."
Moonlight filtered through the shattered window, washing over Hazel.
She lay there with tangled hair, a swollen cheek, and a bloody lip. Yet, as Sean stared at her, he was mesmerized for a split second.
He had to admit, Hazel's radiant complexion and stunning curves made her absolutely gorgeous. Julian had to be out of his mind to ignore a woman like this in favor of Evelyn.
Right as Sean's lips were about to brush her neck, the bedroom door was kicked violently open.
The heavy door slammed into the wall, shaking the entire room. Sean snapped his head up just as Hazel looked toward the sudden noise.
A figure stood in the doorway, silhouetted against the dim hallway light. His face was obscured, but his tall, imposing frame was unmistakable.
"Marcus?" Hazel's voice was hoarse, almost as if she couldn't believe her own eyes.
The man strode into the room with an icy demeanor. Before Sean could even process what was happening, the intruder delivered a punishing kick to his ribs. He then dragged Sean off the bed and pinned him ruthlessly to the floor with a heavy boot.
Sean thrashed around, but his hands were quickly wrenched behind his back and secured. He kept spewing curses, "Who the hell are you? Mind your own damn business!"
