Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 190

"Sure," Evelyn said, taking the bottle. She tilted her head thoughtfully. "Should we ask Julian and Hazel if they want to join us?"

Chloe scoffed loudly. "Why would we ask Hazel? If she starves to death, what do I care?"

"Chloe." Evelyn tugged gently on the younger girl's sleeve, layering her voice with thick, syrupy concern. "You shouldn't say things like that. If your brother hears you, it'll ruin your relationship."

"My brother and I are solid. A gold-digger like Hazel could never tear us apart. You worry too much, Evelyn."

Chloe pulled her arm away, her tone arrogant and unflinching, and strutted off toward Julian.

Evelyn stood in the hallway, watching Chloe's retreating back. The soft, gentle smile melted off her face, replaced by a cold, calculating stillness. She turned on her heel and slipped into the restroom.

It was empty. After checking under every stall to ensure she was completely alone, she pulled her phone from her clutch and dialed a number.

It rang twice before connecting. Evelyn leaned against the marble sink, locking eyes with her own immaculate reflection.

Her lips curved into a vicious, triumphant smirk.

You want a baby, Julian? Fine. I'll give you one.

...

Chloe skipped over to Julian, looping her arm through his with a bright smile. "Julian, let's go grab lunch."

She entirely ignored Hazel's existence. Hazel didn't care.

Julian glanced down at Hazel, who had just pulled her laptop out of her tote and balanced it on her knees.

He sat down beside her, his voice warm. "Let's go eat. The tests are done, and it's already noon."

Hazel's fingers were already flying across the trackpad. The blue light from the screen illuminated her impassive face. "I have no appetite. You guys go ahead."
