"Even so, you don't need to shadow my every move! You're the one who wanted to go to the mall and forced me to tag along. Are you following me, or am I following you?"
The girl didn't look guilty in the slightest; instead, she puffed out her chest with absolute justification. "Since I'm your personal blood donor, it's your job to keep me happy and relaxed! If you upset me, I'll just forfeit the money and walk away. How about that?"
Gideon was at a loss for words. He opened his mouth, then shut it, looking like he wanted to cry but had no tears left. He seriously couldn't fathom why his mother had brought this walking nightmare into his life.
Just then, he looked up and spotted Hazel. His eyes instantly lit up.
"Hazel! What are you doing here?"
He jogged over, the girl trailing right behind him. Hazel looked from Gideon to the girl standing at his back.
"And this is?"
Gideon scratched his head, clearly struggling to find the right words. "This is the blood donor Mom hired for me."
The girl peeked out from behind him and waved cheerfully at Hazel. When she smiled, two adorable dimples appeared on her cheeks. "I'm Dawn. You know, like the break of dawn. Nice to meet you! I'm Gideon's personal blood donor."
She delivered the introduction without a single trace of awkwardness or embarrassment.
Hazel studied her face. Her immediate thought was that she looked vaguely familiar. After letting her gaze linger on Dawn for a moment, she politely nodded back.
"Hello. I'm Hazel, Gideon's sister."
