Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 155

Hazel pursed her lips. "I haven't properly thanked you for last time. I'd like to treat you to dinner. When are you available?"

"I'm free whenever," Marcus replied effortlessly.

"Great, I'll book a restaurant then." Hazel pulled out her phone to start looking.

Marcus nodded, his gaze shifting back to the road.

The banquet was held at an exclusive private club. The car pulled up to the grand entrance, and a valet hurried over to open the door.

Hazel stepped out, lifting the hem of her lavender gown as it fluttered gently in the night breeze. Marcus walked around the front of the car, offering her his bent arm.

She blinked in surprise before slipping her hand through the crook of his elbow. Together, they walked inside.

The ballroom was bustling with elegantly dressed guests. The light from the massive crystal chandeliers poured over a sea of tailored suits and evening gowns.

Waiters wove through the crowd with trays of champagne, the murmur of conversation and clinking glasses blending into a sophisticated hum.

Julian and Evelyn arrived shortly after. As the car stopped at the entrance, Evelyn stepped out of the passenger seat. She wore a cream-colored evening dress, her hair cascading down her shoulders, her makeup flawless.

She linked her arm through Julian's, tilting her head up to gaze at him with sparkling eyes.

"Julian, you're so amazing for bringing me to a place like this. Does Hazel know? Should we invite her to come too?"

Julian hesitated for a moment. "We could."

Evelyn's expression faltered, her fingers tightening around his arm. She hadn't expected him to actually agree to call Hazel.

She quickly grabbed his hand. "Actually, Julian, never mind. Hazel is probably busy right now."

Julian thought about it—Hazel was supposed to be at home keeping Beatrice company. He slid his phone back into his pocket, turning to Evelyn with a soft smile. "You're right. Let's head inside, Evelyn."
