Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 137

Clutching her clipboard, Raina cautiously turned her head to look at Hazel.

The unspoken plea in her eyes was painfully clear.

Dr. Garrison, please help.

The moment she glanced over, Evelyn shot up and backhanded Raina across the face.

A sharp slap echoed through the lab, freezing everyone in place.

"From now on, I am your team leader." Evelyn's voice shrieked with absolute authority. "What I say goes! Who gave you permission to look to someone else without my orders?"

Raina clutched her stinging cheek, her eyes instantly welling with red-rimmed tears. She didn't dare utter a single syllable.

The lab fell deathly silent, leaving only the droning groan of the machinery. Given that Evelyn had managed to return after the recent scandal, everyone knew she had powerful backers. No one dared to cross her.

More red warnings flooded the monitor. The data curves were now completely unreadable.

The glitch was cascading from one module to the next. At this rate, the entire mainframe was going to crash.

Hazel stepped forward.

She shoved Evelyn away from the console. Caught completely off guard, Evelyn stumbled back a few steps before catching her balance, whipping her head around in absolute disbelief.

"Hazel!" Her voice hit a screech. "Did you forget the deal we made?!"

Hazel shot her an ice-cold glare over her shoulder. The threat instantly died in Evelyn's throat.

"Do you want this entire lab shut down today?"

Evelyn's lips parted, but she didn't dare make a sound.
